Hello :)

I am raising money for... my daughter, Emma. She was born with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diplegia. She also has Type 1 also called Juvenile Diabetes.
Emma has on going physical therapy needs, specialized equipment, diabetic specialists, neurologist, endocrinologist for her diabetes, has had to undergo colonoscopy and endoscopy for stomach issues related to her spasticity, requires daily insulin, insulin pump equipment, multiple medications and more.  Currently we are preparing for her SDR surgery which is in another state. We will need funds for her co-pay as well as funds to stay in the same city and care for her needs afterwards.

The money collected will go towards...

1. Surgery Known as SDR Selective Dorsal Rhyzotomy which will release the tension caused by the spasticity so that Emma can be more functional, walk with more ease and have far less pain This surgery will improve her quality of life as she gets older as well. http://www.stlouischildrens.org/content/medservices/AboutSelectiveDorsalRhizotomy.htm

2. A place for family to stay while Emma is in the hospital.

3. Travel expenses.

4. Care for our pets while away from home.

5. Insulin, Insulin Pump Supplies, on going physical therapy which will not be covered by insurance, insurance co-pays, chiropractic care, diabetic specialists, and all other necessary medical expenses which are on-going.

6. Specialized equipment from braces, shoe inserts, treadmill, stationary bike, stretching equipment, etc.

7. Family YMCA membership so Emma can use their pool for non invasive conditioning and strength development. A family membership allows my husband and myself to be able to go with her and assist her.

We realize there are many in need in the world and I waited a very long time to ask for assistance however with the economy, my daughter's on going expenses and needs, it is difficult to be able to make the income necessary to give her a viable life. I am in fear she will have failure to thrive if we do not get her the help she needs. I commend you for looking over the listings here and making donations where and when you can regardless of if for my family and my daughter or someone else's family. Thank you for your consideration.

With love

Its been a LONG time since I have posted an update here but we have made so much progress its amazing! Today, Emma officially enrolled at Washburn University and will begin college in the fall! She still has some difficulty with what we consider to be minor health issues, such as the gastric stuff, but her CP has improved 100% since her SDR surgery. We could not be more pleased with the outcome. Emma has so much stamina and I find it hard to keep up with her lol. I am so happy for her and proud of her to be starting this new chapter in her life. As her peers are still in high school and going to prom, graduation, etc, it is a little bittersweet that she is missing out on those experiences. College however will bring her so many more worthwhile experiences though. She hopes to join a sorority as well and that will be wonderful for her since she has lost touch with so many of her friends from before her surgery. As a mother, in many ways, I have to say that is just as well. College will bring her way a more mature group of peers, hopefully. haha.
Thank you all for your help, prayers, and support along her journey! Every bit of it has been so valuable. We can not thank you enough.
Much love to all!

Just an update and happy announcement! Emma began working at a local radio station this past week!! She is VERY excited, and nervous of course. Its a big opportunity! Also a very good first job! She was able to connect with the radio station general manager through her doing some fund raising drives with Children's Miracle Network who have also aided us in the past. A great organization and a great outcome for Emma! :) Thank you all for your support and prayers! It is working!

Mandi Clark sent me this link I have the same type of CP but have not had this surgery. My prayers are with you. I know how awful surgeries are. Hang in there. I have had my hamstrings lengthened twice for example and of course lots and lots of Physical therapy. I would love to chat if you ever need a friend. It is so hard to keep fighting sometimes but you will make it. God bless you.

My Emma is now 20 and is my oldest daughter. She has generously given me every grey hair on my head. Stubborn yet extremely hard headed. She has grown into a great young person. I think every Emma should be a queen. But I'm sure they don't need to be told. They already know it;)

Every little bit helps and THANK YOU! It all adds up to reaching another goal for Emma! Today I have been looking at treadmills on cragslist. Its much too hot for walking and really not safe for Emma to be walking around our neighborhood with no sidewalks. Thank you this brings us even one more step closer to this goal! <3
