Meet Tom.....
Unlike the majority of the world Tom was born with one fuctional kidney. It has always functioned less than 100%
You require 25% of one kidney to be ok. and currently his kidney is currently operating at 13%. Tom desperately needs a kidney transplant and is on the list.
Tom has to see a renal dietitian and his renal specialist team which consists of three nurses and two nephrology doctors once every fortnight.
Tom currently takes 5 different medications, which frustratingly aren't covered so the cost each time the prescritipn is filled is roughly $230.00
Tom is set to start Perenatal dialysis at home in the next few weeks. It will require a catheter to be inserted into his stomache for the PD to operate. This means that Tom will not get to experience things kids his age do like School or sport which will have a detrimental affect on him. And now to add insult to injury Tom has been diagnosed with hyperparathyroid bone disease as a result of renal failure.
Because Tom is unable to go to school his mum Nicole is also not able to work. She is Tom's carer and needs to be with him to help administer medications and help with the dialysys.
With no income coming in and minimal relief from Medicare etc Nicole is struggling to give her kids the life they all deserve.
Your donation will go entirely towards Tom's medical expenses and help relieve one of the many stresses Nicole is facing.
No mum should have to watch their child go through bad health but to have the added worry of not knowing how she will afford his medicine is something we can all help with.
