Where Arwen's story began I'm not quite sure, but I do know at 2 years old she ended up at the San Diego County Department of Animal Services. That's where I found her in October of 2014; Arwen was emaciated, heartworm-positive, and pregnant. I knew if I didn't adopt her her chances of survival were slim.
After several rounds of heartworm treatment, lots of love and nourishment, Arwen finally became healthy and regained the spark she'd lost as a stray dog. Arwen now lives a very fulfilled life with her older adopted sister Oryx.
Recently, I took Arwen in for a visit to the vet to have (what I thought) was a skin tag on her face looked at. It turns out the "skin tag" is a mass that is more than likely skin cancer, and needs to be removed immediately. After removal, it will be sent to the lab for biopsy to determine whether it's benign or malignant. As any pet owner knows, pet care in general is expensive. With the surgery requiring anesthesia, after care, and lab testing, it is estimated at $800 and is simply out of our budget.
Arwen and I are reaching out to you to help us in this time. The thought of my sweet angel dealing with skin cancer because we can't afford to treat it is unbearable and simply not an option, so we're asking our community of animal loving friends to help in any way they can.
Arwen has had multiple medical battles and always comes out on top, with high spirits and sass. While I may not know her history in the 2 years prior to meeting her, falling in love with her, and adopting her, I know she will live the rest of her life being loved, adored, and spoiled as every animal should be. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you so much in advance for your kindness in helping Arwen during this difficult time.
