Art Supplies For La Rose Elementary

Donation protected
At the beginning of my first year of teaching art, I was told I would have a budget of $200 for the year's supplies. I wasn't too worried, because the last teacher had left the room fairly well stocked with markers, crayons, and paint. Little did I realize how quickly we would use those supplies, and how much of my own money I would end up spending throughout the year to make sure we had enough supplies for everyone to work.

I teach art at La Rose Elementary, in the Shelby County School system. The budgets for our school and for many of our families are tight, but the creative potential of our students is vast and eager to be released.

In order to release that potential, we're going to need some tools. I've realized after my first year of teaching that investing in the best tools for art making can make the difference between student success and hopeless frustration.

This year, my curriculum will focus on the fundamentals of drawing, and, as such, we're going to need some good markers that lay down clean, bright lines and flat areas of color. We'll need heavyweight drawing paper that won't buckle and tear. The younger kids love collages, so we'll need some more scissors and glue sticks so we don't have any more fights over having to share two pairs of scissors with a table of four.

I want my students to focus on making great art and learning how to be creative problem solvers. I don't want subpar or missing materials to get in their way. Help me make a clear path for them with the best materials. Every dollar you donate is a marker, a crayon, a peice of a paper, a possibility.
