In honour of my precious nephew Arlo Yoshi Waters 21/11/18-28/11/18
Our sweet boy unfortunately lost a lot of blood back into his mum and as a result his brain sustained severe damage.
Arlo spent his final 26 hours at the Hummingbird House surrounded by so much love and care. The Hummingbird House went above and beyond for Arlo, my brother Darren and my sister in-law Mel.
The Hummingbird House provides short break stays and care at the end of life for children with a life-limiting condition and their families, and to help families discover moments and create memories to last a lifetime.
The Hummingbird House services aim to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of babies, children, young people and their families. Care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of specialist staff, working together to ensure seamless support to the entire family which includes siblings and grandparents.
Being able to share in our precious Arlo's final moments in this type of 'home-like' environment made it so much more special as we were able to draw away from the clinical feeling of a hospital stay. My brother and his wife were able to share in a sort of 'normality' thanks to this foundation.
It costs over $3 million each year to operate Hummingbird House as a free service for Queensland families. Providing financial support to allow families to access Hummingbird House free of charge is a powerful way everyday Australians can help these families in need.
There is only 3 children's hospices in the whole of Australia and they need your help.
