Everyone who knew Tony knew how much he impacted their lives for the better. Because of Tony's memory, the Anthony Swalligan Memorial Foundation was able to raise over $7,000 last year. The funds raised from last year's 3 on 3 Basketball tournament helped us bring Chris Herren, former NBA player and recovering addict, to Pennsylvania Highlands Community College to speak with high school seniors and current students at Penn Highlands.
This year we are hoping to raise even more. We plan on bringing Chris Herren back to Johnstown to once again speak with high school seniors. Last year some of the schools ran into budgeting issues. We would like to raise enough so we can take care of transportation for those schools not able to attend this past year.
If you knew Tony we hope you can contribute to our cause to honor his memory. If you did not know Tony, we hope you can contribute to help make Johnstown a better place by teaching the next group of leaders about the dangers of substance abuse.
The best way to educate people on the seriousness of addiction and substance abuse, as well as self esteem issues and other problems high school kids face, is through meaningful and relatable stories. I feel as though Chris's story is one that truly resonates with high schoolers. My hope is that you are able to donate something to our cause. Even if it saves just one life, it is worth it.
