Annaé's Story
2 years ago, Annaé was born in Toulouse, France, at 30 weeks gestational age, that’s 10 weeks before her due date. When she was born, she weighed only 3 lbs and her tiny little heart and lungs were not strong enough to sustain her life. She required resuscitation at birth. She was in the NICU for 4 months working on feeding and breathing on her own before getting to come home with her parents, Anne-Claire and Lidia. She continues to work on breathing and feeding at home, regularly with supplemental oxygen and constant use of a feeding tube into the stomach for nutrients. Annaé is also working hard to improve her motor system. Due to the lack of oxygen at birth, she has significant damage to her brain that not only affected breathing and eating on her own, but also her ability to hold her head up, roll, sit up, and crawl on her own. Because of her inability to swallow, saliva goes right into her lungs, which causes serious respiratory problems.
Both moms were exhausted from the prolonged NICU stay, and the grueling daily rehabilitation schedule, but they will never give up.
Thanks to incredibly devoted physical, speech and occupational therapists, Annaé shows some progress. She smiles more and more, loves to touch an object she likes. She can recognize colors and is sensitive to music. She produces loud sounds to express happiness or dissaproval sometimes too ! But her favorite thing to do is try to stand up safely in Mommy's arms.
Now they are looking into some alternative options to optimize Annaé’s health, comfort and well-being.
Due to the incredible generosity of people, Annaé just received a first treatment in a hyperbaric chamber in Montreal for a month. In addition, we want Annaé to benefit from a stem cell treatment. It could improve the function of her lung cells and brain cells in the hopes of improving her compromised neurology. If these interventions could give Annae more quality of life enough to be able to enjoy activities with her family like going to the park, communicating more, enjoying food, then it’s all worth it!
They will have to go to Phoenix, AZ, in March 2019, as the treatment is not available in France.
Your kind donations will help financing the whole treatment, which is about $7000, and 2 plane tickets for $3000.
They will need a whole team to make it possible. Some family is flying from Montreal to help. Despite the money issue, the trip in itself is very complicated. They need to bring oxygen, monitor control, gastrostomy supplies, suction kit in the plane. They will have to keep giving medical care, breathing, and physical exercises through the entire stay.

We went through a lot to be able to have a baby. Waiting for Annaé was a dream come true. We love our daughter so much, we could not resign. We decided to keep fighting for our beloved daughter. Despite medical opinion, we looked everywhere for qualified pediatric doctors and therapists and are doing everything for Annaé to be more aware of her environment, to get more pleasure in life and comfort.
Which is why we are asking our dear friends and family to help. To be honest, we need donations, but if you could share the story of Annaé around you, that would be a great plus !
