Animal Advocate Mauled by Dog

** Attention Friends **Last week, a local vegan animal rights activist was attacked and bitten in the face by a large dog, during a routine medical examination at the veterinary office where she works full-time, providing exceptional care to hundreds of companion animals weekly. She sustained multiple lacerations and extensive tissue loss (35% of her upper lip is now gone), severing the nerves and damaging the facial muscles. These wounds will now require multiple reconstructive surgeries and possibly skin-grafts to repair, which could take months to complete, forcing her to be out of work for an indeterminate amount of time. She and her partner (also a passionate, committed and well-respected AR activist), are in need of financial help to cover medical costs, as well as any bills accrued during her time spent away from work, while she recovers and attempts to heal from these traumatic injuries, which may result in not only permanent, physical scars, but also emotional and psychological damage, as a result of the trauma from this terrifying experience.The dog who attacked her was later found out to be a rescue, recently adopted, but due to his violent and aggressive behavior, was most likely abused or used in dog-fighting previously. No official charges are being filed against the owner or the establishment at this time, but the case will be on-going.
