Hi Friends,

Most of you know that our dear friend, Andrew, recently experienced a tragic motorcycle accident and is now in the capable hands of the Sunnybrook trauma team. Sadly, he has suffered significant injuries to his lower body that will require a lengthy and elevated level of care throughout his stay in the hospital and, later, at a rehabilitation centre.

As a tribute to Andrew & Lesley – both long & avid contributors to our small community – please join me in making a small donation to support Andrew’s recovery period to make it as worry free as possible during this extremely difficult time.

Thank you.

Keep him in our Prayers!

DAY 48. Hard to process that. Day 1 seems like yesterday.
I remember every minute of that first day and night vividly.
Not so much the night Les and I shared a little too much Scotch in the ICU.
Enough of that.

MONUMENTAL DAY

Andrew projected this day would come Sep 20.
As always he has exceeded expectations.

This morning he was transferred to St. John’s Rehabilitation hospital.
Happy to admit there are tears while I type this.
I have always maintained positive optimism from day one, regardless of the challenges presented.
I believe that strongly in our friend.
He is a FORCE OF NATURE….. Underestimate him at your own peril.

As the move has just taken place I have no information on visitation options/restrictions.
I will share more information as I get it.

So here we are, Day 43. Since the last update there has been substantial movement.
• Dialysis has been placed on hold. Andrew is showing more kidney function than expected only a few days ago. This is truly excellent news. Good thoughts that this continues.
• Left leg has received final surgical cleanup for proper healing and preparation for a prosthetic leg.
• New development. His left wrist and elbow sustained a fracture. These will be repaired during surgery today. Hopefully his last.
• Physio continues to go well. Every day he is getting a little stronger and a step closer to rehab. Discussion are under way to determine timing of move to rehab. The left wrist will delay that a bit but we expect that to come sooner than later. That will be a huge day for Andrew and for all of us.

Andrew is very much enjoying the positive messaging people are sending. Please keep sending them.

I want to close this update with a picture. This is Andrew during a rehab session, sitting up on the bed. A very big step.

Andrew continues to exceed the experts expectations for his recovery. I look forward to seeing how he will continue to do so. The man is truly an inspiration. Exactly 6 weeks ago he was hit by a car, gravely injured with limited prognosis of survival. Well he has not only survived, but despite the encyclopedia of injuries he is progressing with a smile on his face. When your day gets you down and you face your own challenges, think of Andrew. Draw inspiration from his attitude and accomplishments.

Thank you as always for your ongoing support and positive energy. All the best, from the Lawlor Family

August 23 Update (Day 27)

The last number caught me off guard for a minute. Cannot believe it has been 27 days since Andrew’s accident.

Everyone. My apologies for not sending an update sooner. Andrew remains in the C5 acute care ward. He is starting some light physio therapy. I am very pleased with his progress. Andrew still has some confusion and delirium but that is expected with the severity of his injuries and the time he spent sedated. In the words of several doctors; “we not sure how he is still alive”. That should if it wasn’t already clear put in to perspective how bad things were. I’m not surprised. As I have communicated many times. I learned decades ago to never underestimated Andrew T Lawlor.

He and Lesley are slowly expanded the list of visitors but do not want too many people yet to ensure Andrew has enough time for rest and physio, 2 key components to his recovery. All his injuries are healing well but they will take time

thank you from the Lawlor Family for your continued love and support
