Andrew and Sara Bird Family Fund

$11,940 of $20,000 goal

Raised by 260 people in 31 months
Jason Wolford
on behalf of Andrew / Sara Bird
 NEWAYGO, MI
On their way back from a Halloween party on Saturday, October 22, 2016, Nicholai (9) and Nehemiah (8) Bird were killed and their sister, Nina (7), critically injured in a car accident in Nassau County, Florida. Parents Andrew and Sara Bird made an emergency trip Sunday to Florida to be with Nina during her recovery and make arrangements for the return of their sons to Michigan. In addition to travel costs, funds will be needed for the continued care of Nina and for the burial costs of the boys. Andrew works for Life EMS of Newaygo County, and Sara is a Newaygo County 911 Dispatcher.
In addition, both Andrew and Sara are committed to the community by serving as firefighters on the Newaygo Fire Department.  Both have dedicated their lives to helping others in their time of need, and now they need our help.  Due to the urgency of their needs as a result of this horrific event, any immediate monetary assistance would be greatly appreciated. The unimaginable has happened to our emergency responders, and our hearts go out to them as they grieve and deal with the future.

Thank you for doing what you can to support a family who has given so much to all of us.

Good morning,

I just spoke with Andrew and I'm happy to report that Andrew and Sara were awarded full custody of Nina and the boys as of this morning. They are forever thankful for the outpouring of support and can't thank you all enough. For those that don't wish to donate using Go Fund Me, tax deductible contributions can be donated at any Independent Bank Branch using the Andrew and Sara Bird Family Fund. The Newaygo Fire Department will also be hosting a meeting at 6 PM Friday evening to discuss additional ways to support the Bird Family in the long and short term. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly or send a message to the Newaygo Fire Department Facebook page. Thanks again for your amazing support for our firefighter family!

My heart goes out to this family... anyone in the service industry to protect and serve their community understands the loss of a "family"member. Let's make this clear - Please donate to help this family-custody battle or not- they are Burying TWO CHILDREN... something a parent should NEVER EVER have to do... some of these comments... I pray you do not have to deal with what this family is having to deal with now..... We are a Family of RED and will stand by our Fellow Fire Fighters and EMS who have put this page together for one of their own in need. Leave your hate and disrespect somewhere else.....Do it for the Children that will have to be buried. AND a Little Girl that will be in need of YEARS of Therapy....Emotional, physically and who knows what else at this point. Burial and Hospital Fees cost People..... Think about it.... My heart Hurts for this family....No amount of money donated to this page will ever bring back these babies.... but it will help with what is needed NOW!

I would like to donate, but I want to know the money is going for their burial. Is this money guaranteed to go to the boys father and not the mother driving the car? I'm not trying to sound petty, I just want to make sure any help goes to the father to help with burial and any costs associated with his daughter and not towards any legal costs the driver (mom) has in the future. Some reassurance would be nice.

When I read this story, it didn't matter how it happened or who was responsible. What mattered to me was that these beautiful angels, who deserve the respect and dignity of a burial, are assisted. It doesn't matter who has custody, who Sarah is, who the first wife is....there seems to be family, friends, co-workers and people who just genuinely care. Let's come together and support these folks in their time of need, as they do for us when we pick up our phones and call 911-and DEPEND on them. On behalf of myself and my family, please accept our most sincere condolences during this time of grief. I wish we had more to give but Nina, Nicholai and Nehemiah will forever be in our prayers.

I can't believe all the negative comments. Having lost a brother and a go fund me was done for him. The money went towards funeral expenses. Andrew is dealing with a lot and having to leave their jobs to be with their daughter and deal with the loss of his sons is hard enough. So it shouldn't matter if the money goes towards their travel, the funerals, medical bills, or bills they have to pay to keep a float or inquire while they have to be off from work. Everything that is donated helps. So if you can give do so, if you have doubts about donating don't. But keep the negative comments to yourself. They need to see positive feedback and loving thoughts. It's hard enough to lose a loved one and even harder when it's your child no matter what their age. May God keep them in his loving arms in their time of grief.

The money from go fund me can only go to people who are authorized by the creator of the go fund me. I'm sure the mother will be facing serious criminal charges based on these actions. If my money was to save their remaining child from being in the mother's custody a moment longer I would still give.

I normally like to support families that have lost loved ones in a tragic way but this has left be speechless. I have donated, but I have to say that ALL parties should be held responsible. The person who had a children's Halloween party serving so much alcohol and allowing this women to get behind the wheel of a car with so many children should be held accountable. Yes, she asked her not to drive but how about refusing to allow her to get in the car with the kids, not allowing ANY of the kids to get int he car with the women. How about having a kids party with no alcohol and teaching our kids that a good time can be had with not getting drunk. The women who threw the party should be ashamed of her self and frankly I hold her just as liable for these boys death as much as the driver. My God has mercy on all of you!

The most important part is to get these babies home. This family has been through enough. Keep everything positive and bring them home., Everyone hold and hug your babies longer and harder tonight and be blessed to still have them and pray for this young family and the hardships they are about to start for the rest of their lives. Prayers for peace and comfort for all of you.. Thank you Jason for being a TRUE friend and getting this all rolling for this family, it also says a lot about what kind of person you are as well.
