Anders Broste Recovery Fund

Written by Anders wife Anaka: As many know, but for those who don’t, Anders was mauled by a grizzly bear Sunday November 11th while hunting in the mountains. His injuries are not life threatening, but his recovery will be very long. There are no words adequate to describe the outpouring of support and love we’ve both received. Our stellar community has proven itself yet again and we are so grateful. All of us who recreate in the mountains we love, accept the risks that are associated with those spaces, places, and activities. Yet it is sobering and terrifying when those risks become reality. Anders and I will never stop recreating despite this risks, despite the reality. Those mountains, places, and spaces are worth it. They are worth protecting. They are nourishing. They are healing. Injuries: right radius fracture, right unstable wrist dislocation, right thumb fracture. Plated and pinned radius. External pins to wrist to stabilize, pins to thumb (will come out in 6 weeks). Left fibula fracture with plate and screws. Multiple ligament tears in left ankle and leg and muscle tears. Pins in ankle to stabilize tibia and fibula while the tendon that connects them scars. All hardware in leg will be removed at later date. Left ACL, MCL and meniscus rupture with small avulsion fracture to tibia.
