Help Anatola Study Abroad!

Dear family, friends, and supporters,

Thank you for visiting my Go Fund Me page. My name is Anatola Araba Pabst and I am an African-American filmmaker and multimedia artist. I am also a rising junior pursuing my BFA at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. I major in my passion of Film and Television Production and minor in Interactive Media Arts. Growing up in New York City and attending LaGuardia High School, staying in the big apple to pursue my degree means that the chance to experience arts and culture in other corners of the planet is one of my greatest aspirations to accomplish during my time at NYU.

I have my heart set on an incredible study abroad opportunity in Paris, France that will bring me closer to accomplishing my academic, professional, and personal goals. However, I need your help to turn my dream of pursuing this study abroad program into a reality. My program of choice is NYU’s Paris Experimental Film Production Workshop over the summer of 2019. Throughout the course of this 6-week intensive, I will direct, shoot, and edit two experimental short films under the professorship Darrel Wilson, an esteemed film/video artist and one of the most respected and highly-admired film professors at NYU. A film I create during the Paris Experimental Production Workshop is guaranteed to be elected as an official selection at the prestigious First Run Film Festival, the longest continuously running film festival in New York City.

It comes as a hurdle for me that NYU does not acknowledge any scholarships and financial aid during the summer semesters that exist in the fall and spring. Due to this policy, I have little to no financial aid during my time abroad despite being awarded excellent scholarships during the academic year. Therefore, I am raising $6,000 to enable me to fund tuition, room, and board for my summer in NYU Tisch’s Paris Experimental Production Workshop.

I would not be a student at NYU had it not been for a generous Tisch Scholarship awarded to me for all 4 years of my education. In addition, I received a generous scholarship on behalf of Overbrook Entertainment in order to cover my freshman year of education. Without these life-changing scholarships, I would not be the student or the person I am today. Still, my inner ambition to cover my remaining cost of attendance has pushed me to work harder than I ever imagined I could.

Throughout my freshman year of college, I worked an average of 25 hours a week at VR World NYC, the largest virtual reality experience center in the western hemisphere. Here, I directed customers through over 50 virtual reality games, films, and art installations. As a sophomore, I worked just as many hours between my position as a Technical Assistant in NYU’s Animation Department where I mentor animation students in learning industry-standard animation software to create their movies. I also work as a design intern at Eulerity where I create the training video portal and design assets for the IOS and Android App that uses artificial intelligence to market across multi-channel platforms. During the weekends, I can often be found serving as a film producer or cinematographer for the films of my talented classmates. Despite my rigorous work schedule, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA for the fall semester of my sophomore year, with an overall accumulative GPA of 3.76.

A summer in Paris will grant me a new lens through which to view my filmmaking repertoire. I am passionate about expanding my horizons and being exposed to the inner workings of the film industry in France. As a young African-American female, I realize my vision and voice is often underrepresented in the film industry. With your help, this program will enable me to tell my story in a new way. The academic and professional benefits of the Paris Experimental Production Workshop will be worth every challenge to attend: it will open a world of possibilities.
