An Evening An With Amnesty

Amnesty International is Miami Beach Senior High School's human rights club, was founded by Alejandro Ortega and Melanie Haber in September 2016, and is sponsored by science teacher Jennifer Silveira.   Within the past year and a half, we have hosted a multitude of activities, including a schoolwide immigrant pride day, a school supply drive for refugees, and presentations on indigenous rights and police brutality.  

Our latest, and biggest, initiative yet, is aiming to fundraise for a scholarship to be given to a graduating senior attending Miami Beach Senior High School, attending an accredited post secondary institution, and pursuing a career related to human rights. We tirelessly advocate for the right to education and in a time where an undergraduate education is 400% expensive more expensive than thirty years ago, college students need all the financial support they can get. We aim to raise $1,000 dollars, which will be mailed to the post secondary institution the scholarship winner will be attending.  The scholarship winner would be selected through an application process and would be picked by Miami Beach Senior High teachers. 

Our fundraiser would culminate in a festival type event, titled "An Evening with Amnesty", to be held April 17th at 6:00 PM outside of the Miami Beach Senior High School auditorium. The event would feature live music performances as well as live painting from Miami Beach Senior High School's Art Club as well as a delicious array of food offerings. We are requesting everyone who attends the event to give  STRONGLY recommended donation of at least ten dollars.
