Amputee Needs WHEELS!

Donation protected

When I was younger I was always riding a motorcycle on the track or trails. I loved it- it was my "sport", my stress relief. During high school I battled and fought off Hodgkin’s disease which is a special, aggressive form of cancer. I made it through two severe rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant. Those were not the happiest of days, but we got through it; I've never been the discouraged type.

(I decided to shave my head so that my chemo wouldn't take it. The whole wrestling team shaved their heads to support me, and that is all of our hair in front of us. Thanks Guys!)

Because of some testing I had done, my spleen was removed. The body needs the spleen to process blood cells in order to fight off many types of infections. Without my spleen, I had little protection. To compensate, I received a shot that helps 'boost' other aspects of the immune system.

Just after high school and right around the time I needed the special booste, I contracted pneumococcal septicemia in my blood. In lament's terms, my entire body was severely infected. The result was devastating. I was in the hospital for 3 months. Half of that time I was in a medically induced coma. When I awoke I was missing both feet and a couple of finger tips- I could not walk, or even tie my hospital gown.

Over the years I have fought (and won!) many other illnesses such as spinal meningitis, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. These were all very life threatening, but are now contained and controlled.

My "legs" feel great and my energy is renewed. I miss riding my motorcycle. Public transit is entertaining, but it isn't quite the same. I looked into scooters thinking just putting around town would be a better, beneficial fit. In my research I found out about Maxi Scooters or "Touring Scooters". I can go on a highway cruise or jump around town.

I want to have the freedom of movement again without having to rely so much on the bus schedule, or if my prosthetics will rub into my skin. I want to have transportation so I can find a job and be reliable in getting there and back instead of always using the bus which can be late constantly. But mostly, I want to be able to go on a long cruise with my dad, which I have only dreamt of doing until now.

Because my funding is very limited on disability, I am seeking help through my community.  My goal is to get enough money to get a Suzuki Burgman 650 and gear and endorsements to be able to ride the roads again, just as I planned to when I was young.

(This is the type of scooter I would like)

Any further fundings over that of which I need will be sent to Make a Wish Foundation which helped me in the past. If I receive a good amount of overfunding I will also be helping out Ronald McDonald House which also helped me.

(My trip to Europe thanks to Make a Wish, I am in the middle)

I will update the post as it goes. And if I get full funding I will post a video of me riding.

Thank you all for taking your time reading this; your donations mean the world to me.
