Say Her Name AMC Gathering

Over the past year, Black women across gender identities and our allies have generated unprecedented attention to police violence against Black women, girls, and trans and gender nonconforming people.  Direct actions under the banner of #SayHerName, #BlackTransLivesMatter, #BlackWomenMatter, and many other convergences have created a groundswell of energy around policing and criminalization of Black trans people, women, and femmes.

On June 16th, 2016, the Allied Media Conference will host a Say Her Name/Black Trans Lives Matter Network Gathering bringing together Black women, Black trans and gender non-conforming people, and our allies who are survivors, organizers, and media makers using creative strategies to highlight the lives, experiences, and resistance of Black women, trans people, and gender nonconforming people killed and violated by police.

Through community building, skill sharing and network building, we hope to push the boundaries of the national conversation around policing and criminalization to include gender-specific forms of racial profiling and police violence. Together we will explore the current and historical context of organizing around our experiences of state violence, delve into what ties our work together beyond the hashtags, and strategize how to collectively lift up cases, strengthen organizing for systemic change, support survivors, and build solidarity across the country.

Your support is very much needed and appreciated. Providing funds to cover attendees' travel expenses  is a crucial step towards making this gathering a reality. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help make it possible for people to afford to attend.  Your generous donation will help us do this urgent and transformative work.  Thank you!!!
