Amaya's Cocina - East Side Culinary

Amaya's Cocina is the East Side culinary concept of the Arciniega family whose roots are three centuries deep in San Antonio. We are located at the intersection of East Commerce and S. Hackberry.
Our neighborhood is at the epicenter of demographic change from blue collar residents to a gentrified development. Our area had been designated a food desert by the federal government due to lack of culinary products and businesses. It is with that knowledge that we developed the idea of creating a culinary flagship for the area by creating Amaya's Cocina. Moreover, we believed that we could create an institution that reflected the local pride and infusion of new arrivals to the East Side.
Growing up in the East Side we know that only through our community we have been able to face challenges and overcome them. More recently Amaya's Cocina has seen its own series of setbacks from construction and small maintanence work that comes with the territory of keeping an old building alive which led us to close for the last few months. We are so close to openning our kitchen once again but the financial strain that unexpected construction placed on us has left us in a place we have seen too many local East Side and San Antonio businesses go towards. We refuse to go quietly and are reaching out for your support.
We definitely understood that we are not in a trendy area with a bar component - in addition our concept is driven by the social politics of our neighborhood. We never devolped Amaya's Cocina as a way to profit from our community but rather a way to give back and create a space to continue building community. With your help we aim to reopen our kitchen and bring the same local healthy brand of culinary products we have for the past year as well as create a space for our local community's voice to be heard to make sure we are a part of the conversation of growth. #KeepSanAntoLocal
