Our dear friend Alma is more than a 36 year old woman Battling Cancer.  She is a caring mother, a loving wife, an affectionate daughter, a generous sister, and a loyal friend.  The name Alma has two meanings- in Latin almus is the word for ‘nourishing’, which compliments the Spanish meaning most know- ‘the soul’.   Alma, the person, has lived to encompass both as the embodiment of a nurturing soul.  Not wanting to put her needs before others, she goes out of her way to avoid asking for help, but never hesitates to help anyone in need.  It’s no wonder she found her passion in teaching yoga and guiding others to center themselves and connect to their spirit.  Throughout her life, and more impressively, in these last couple of years, she has always remained true to her soul and has never lost faith in our Heavenly Father.
Alma was first diagnosed in April 2013, with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), a very aggressive form of breast cancer that afflicts younger women, many of them with an inherited genetic mutation. Unfortunately, awareness of genetic factors contributing to early onset breast cancer is less than it should be. From the beginning, Alma made the decision to speak out and share her story, she wanted to give women hope and increase awareness of her disease and its causes.  She even contributed to an online blog - Triple Negative Breast Cancer- A Young Mom’s Story
Soon after her diagnosis, she began 8 rounds of standard chemotherapy, each round more difficult than the last, but somehow each round made her stronger, increased her commitment to the fight, helping her to make up her mind that she would win.
And she did, she remained cancer free for almost a full year. Her hair was finally long enough to get a fashionable hair-do… A girl wants to look good, right?  She was feeling great and starting to make future plans for her and her family.
Then, in May of 2014, she developed an unusual cough that wouldn’t subside. A CT scan confirmed the cancer had spread to her lungs. Because there was no next ‘standard treatment’, she had to consider entering a clinical trial for an experimental drug. Her courage undiminished, she took on a new chemotherapy treatment regimen, but 9 very difficult cycles later, her CT scan showed no further tumor shrinkage, and she could no longer continue with the trial.
Today Alma is facing the next chapter with her cancer and has entered a new clinical trial for an experimental drug that empowers the body’s own immune system to identify and kill the cancer cells.
She began her first treatment on February 25th at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute in Los Angeles, CA. The clinical trial requires that she visit every 3 weeks to receive an intravenous infusion.
As Alma continues to touch, and nourish, our lives in various ways, we wanted to start this campaign to help give back and enable Alma’s network to help her beat this illness. Let’s help fund the next phase of Alma’s treatment with alleviating travel expenses and other costs.
Here’s how you can make a difference:
1. Pray! “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” Matthew 18:20
2. Donate! Any donation will be deeply appreciated. Please note all donations are in US dollars.
3. Spread the word! Send the link to all of your friends and contacts.
4. Create awareness! Don’t be afraid to tell people about cancer and get checked.
Alma and her family deeply appreciate all the love, support and prayers they receive every day.

Thank you!
