From Mexico to Harvard!!!
I am extremely excited to share with you that I have been accepted to Harvard’s MA in Education Policy and Management for Fall 2017!!!
I believe that education is a right that every individual should have and the key to excite the captivity of poverty. With the current political climate in the US, it is vital to keep this principle in the minds of our policy makers and government, so that the next generation of students are guaranteed access to education, regardless of their background. This belief is why I chose to apply to Harvard’s MA in Education Policy and Management.
I had to re-read my acceptance letter several times before it sank in. Knowing that I have been accepted to this program is exhilarating! Nevertheless, a month after my acceptance, I received my financial aid package and was grateful to be awarded $17,000; despite this aid, however, I have a significant gap in the estimates
$75,000 cost of attendance.
Unfortunately, this financial concern has kept me from celebrating, since my attendance depends on my ability to fund for the program. For this reason, I am turning to you, my friends and community, in the hopes that you can help me reach my goal.
I am currently working to raise $52,000 to fill the financial gap.
Once at Harvard, I plan to focus my graduate work in the interconnection between immigration and education with an emphasis on the experiences and policies affecting undocumented and other immigrant students. Harvard’s MA in Education Policy and Management will provide me with the necessary tools to advocate for and change/affect policies/laws. The social justice value engraved into the program reflects my desire for implementation of change. In the future, I hope to increase equity in our schools and expand the protection of guaranteed access to education k-12, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, or documentation status, among others, to higher education.
Receiving the news of my acceptance to Harvard, felt magical. As if the long lost letter from Hogwards had finally arrived, via email rather than owl. However, I do not want this to be only a fantasy. It is thanks to the support of my loved ones that I have made it this far, but it will be thanks to you that this almost impossible dream will become a reality!
Please donate and/or share this story!
Thank you in advance!
This is real now!
I will be flying to the east coast on August 16th! The following week, I will be doing orientation and signing up for classes. Course Shopping at Harvard is a two day event during which students sit in on 20 minutes classes, to see what content and professor fits their learning goals best! Then, on August 21st, I will be attending my first day of classes at HARVARD!
Thank you so much for everyone who has supported me emotional, mentally, or financially through donations. Please continue to share my story so that we can raise more funds!
I have amazing news!
Harvard University just emailed me with the following message:
"We are happy to say that an additional scholarship from the University's Committee on General Scholarships (CGS) has been added for $15,000. Congratulations!"
THANK YOU HARVARD and THANK YOU for your support!
Please continue to share my story and encourage others to donate! We are almost there!
We have passed the $2,500 mark! I am happy to share that with your and my family's help, I will be attending Harvard on the Fall! I am currently at a $5,000 gap, not counting the $2,645 already raised! If we can raise $2,500 more, I will be set for the upcoming year!
Please continue to share and encourage others to donate!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
One of these individuals is Sensei Henry Kaku. For the past nine years, he has seen me grow and taken me under his wing on and off the judo mat. His kindness towards others and his gentle yet resilient personality have helped me be who I am today. He has taught me both Judo and, simply put, how to be a better person.
I plan to continue practicing judo at Harvard and while there, I will make sure to follow's Sensei Henry charitable spirit by helping other students in need.
Thank you Sensei!
