Alliyah's HBCU Trip

Hellooooo Village!

It's that time again!! 2 years ago when Ranesha was in the 11th grade we came together and made her dream of going on the Historical Black College and University tour come true. It is nooow that time for my baby, My Senior, to have that same opportunity. Alliyah is a Senior this year, and really wants to attend a HBCU. She even wrote a small blurb about why she wants to attend a HBCU. I would like to share a part of that essay with you:

Going on this HBCU trip is important to me because I feel that going to an HBCU would be most beneficial for me. Being a Senior this year, I want to get an early start on exploring my dream schools. I have already made up my mind, I want to go to an HBCU. Growing up in Oakland as a young African-American female you don’t really hear about many black people finishing high school or going to a historically black college/university. This makes me even more determined to succeed and break that cycle. Going to Elementary, Middle, and High schools where the student population has a high student demographic of Latino kids, I see how comfortable and supported they feel around each other. This makes me want to go to college where there are people that are of my race. I would like to feel that sort of support and belong to a community of people that look like me. Going to these schools has also caused me to tap into my culture and want to learn even more about my history. I joined black student union at my school and not only participated but helped plan our black cultural celebrations. I want to witness and be a part of the black college experience first hand. I want to get an inside look into some of the well known historically black colleges/universities. I think being able to go on this trip is the first real step toward fulfilling my dream of going to a HBCU.

Her words.

My beautiful, passionate, strong, hardworking, determined, resilient, soooo pro-BLACK young lady needs your help. $1700 is a lot to come up with in 3 months and that is JUST the cost of the trip. I wasn't sure she was going to be able to go which is why I started her GoFundMe later than I did Ranesha's. However, now that I got the GO she is Goooooing!!!! :-) Any contribution is appreciated! The trip is November 6-10. She will visit 5 campuses across 2 states. Spelman, Morehouse, Clark, Tuskegee, and Alabama State. She will also have the opportunity of attending Homecoming and The Battle of the Bands. This is an amazing opportunity to expose her to just what she has been looking for.
If you can donate? Great! But if NOTHING else...please share, Share, SHARE this link and let's get Liyah on this tour!!!

Please and Thanks so much for being her village! :-)
