Plastic Film Recycling

Donation protected
Hi everyone!

This year as an elective course at school I am doing an independent study I am calling “Society and the Environment”. I am working with the Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA) and the director of waste management for our town to design and implement a plastic film recycling program for the Hollis transfer station. Plastic film is one of the most harmful types of plastic waste, yet it is also one of the least often recycled. My hope is to raise awareness regarding the issue of plastic film waste, make recycling plastic film practical for Hollis residents, and to ultimately establish a permanent program that will divert significant quantities of plastic film waste from landfills.

Another aspect of the project is a website. The website explains the plastic film recycling program project and records its progress, as well as includes a blog. Initially, the blog will include articles relating to plastic film, but I will also be researching the relationship between humans and the environment and informing and hopefully people to make positive changes in their lives.

This project includes several expenses, including paying for bins for collecting plastic film at the transfer station, posters to help educate the public, a permanent banner for the transfer station, bins for collecting plastic film at Hollis schools, and transportation costs for bringing the plastic film every week to a location where it will be recycled. Contributions help to defray these costs and improve my project and outreach.
