We know how powerful it is to hear the words "You have Cancer" ... and now unfortunately, our family has heard these words first hand.
It is with fear and sadness that I share the news with all of you that my mother, Alice, has been diagnosed with Primary CNS Lymphoma of the brain.
As most of you know, My mother and I have spent the last 6+ years running Moments House and taking care of our friends and neighbors that have been impacted by this horrible disease, and now its our turn to lean a bit on all of you for some support.
As much time as I have personally spent talking with and caring for other families with a new diagnosis - surprisingly it hasn't even come close to preparing me for when this would happen to my own mother, to me, to our family.
I have said so many times over the years "Cancer doesn't care, its doesn't discriminate against who you are, how old you are or take into consideration any other factors." To say we are SHOCKED that our angel here in the Berkshires has been diagnosed with the disease, we have fought so hard against for so many years, is an understatement ...
We have made great relationships through Moments House and throughout our Berkshire Community. We are blessed to know each of you and to consider you part of our family. This is why I am creating this page to try and keep everyone up to date as much as possible. I know my mother has so many people that love and adore her and I want you to all be part of this journey with us. I can't personally update each of you reading this on a daily basis, my apologies for that. I will do my best to update as often as possible.
Times with be tough for us for a period of time as we process this news, figure out a treatment plan and continue to move forward as we all know my mother would do.
I gave my mother the nickname description of "Sunshine & Rainbows" It fits her perfectly. Those that know her personally I hope that made you smile, knowing how much of an accurate description of her that really is!! She is always positive and uplifting everyone around her. Even as I write this sitting next to her at BayState she is happy and has the nurses grinning from ear to ear from her cheerful disposition!
We are very fortunate in this life and grateful for every blessing we have. The questions of "How can I help?" "What can I do?" "Do you need anything?" have already started to come in. The love we already feel is AMAZING! Funds raised will be used for any necessities, travel (I will be flying back and forth as much as possible and needed), and family (including taking care of Kam) costs, as well as ANYTHING that my mother may need or say that she wants to keep her comfortable throughout this process.
Moments House WILL BE staying open and we will continue to help in any and all ways that we can to care for our members, friends ... FAMILY. If you are able to stop in and donate some time we would be so grateful for that as well. Please reach out to Kelly Akroman - she will be running the show while my mother is out of comission. We know our awesome volunteers will keep everything running in good order as if my Mom was sitting right there.
It is with a grateful heart that I thank all of you in advance for your good thoughts, prayers, healthy vibes and messages! We know how important a good attitude is when dealing with a diagnosis.
