Alex K. is a non-verbal 10 year old boy with cerebral palsy and a severe seizure disorder.  Alex lives in a community west of Chicago with his mother, Leanne, who has cared forAlex on her own since birth.  Alex and his mother are facing eviction from their home in approximately 90 days and will be homeless unless we can raise enough money for adequate housing until a permanent solution can be found. Unfortunately, here in Illinois, Section 8 (subsidized housing) is extremely limited and it can take months to find a suitable apartment.

Alex's father is addicted to narcotics and has not been involved  since Alex was an infant.  Due to Alex's cerebral palsy and seizure disorder (he has an implanted vagus nerve stimulator and is currently taking  seven medications), Alex requires 24/7 attention which prevents Alex's mom from working outside the home. Mom has no relatives to help her care for Alex, and the State of Illinois is broke and has no money to provide an aide or respite services for Alex's mother. Alex's mom is in poor health, having had a heart attack and a stent implanted 7 years ago.  Mom is also a diabetic and has three (3) herniated disks which she cannot have repaired since there is nobody to take care of Alex while she is recovering from orthopedic surgery.  The disks are only getting worse  since Alex's mom needs to carry Alex up and down the stairs from their apartment to the street. Mom cannot  get a colonoscopy due to lack of backup care for Alex.  Both Alex and his mom also have very bad teeth.  Alex requires dental trratment under general anesthesia as soon as possible and Leanne has several abscessed teeth which are exacerbated by her diabetes.

We are raising money for the follwing critical needs Alex and his mother face:  (1) $10,000 to provide essential living expenses for Alex and his mother until they can find Section 8 or other affordable housing after the are evicted from their home.; (2) $5,000 to pay for Alex's dental care performed under general anesthesia; and (3)$2500 to extract Alex's mother's infected teeth and to save as many of her decayed teeth as possible. The total amount  we are raising is $17,500.

Thank you for helping Alex and his mother in their time of need. May you never know such adversity and merit much good fortune for your kindness.

The picture to your right shows Alex's teeth before they were beautifully repaired by Dr. John Mrozek on May 2, 2018. The anesthesia was performed by Dr. Michael Higgins. Dr. Jeff Cantor managed the Go Fund Me campaign. I will post the After Treatment photo in a couple of days. Thank you to all for making this happen!

Dear Dedicated and Generous Supporters,

It took over a year, but we accomplished our goals!
Most importantly, Leanne and Alex were able to find a safe and comfortable place to live. They are all settled and doing well, and Alex did not have to change schools, which was an added blessing. And on Thursday, May 3, 2018, thanks to the support of all of the wonderful people who contributed to our GO FUND ME campaign, Alex had his teeth restored under a general anesthetic. Thank you, thank, you, thank you to all who supported our efforts to take care of Alex and Leanne. Special recognition should be accorded to Dr. John Mrozek, who did the exceptionally fine dental treatment and donated about $3000 of his services; Dr. Michael Higgins, Alex's anesthesiologist, who donated over $3000 of his services; and Mr. John De Carrier who kicked off our campaign with a most generous gift of $3500 from the Mia De Carrier Foundation.
Leanne and Alex thank everyone from the bottom of their hearts for their loving spirit and willingness to share their bounty. If it is true that the world is evenly divided between good and evil, then all of us involved in this project have truly made a difference with our actions by moving the pendulum a little towards
the light. The pre and post treatment pictures will be coming soon as well as a letter from Leanne expressing her appreciation for your help.
May you all be able to keep giving to those in need, and G-d always smile on you and yours.
............Jeff Cantor and John Mrozek
