Team Alex - Face Off With Cancer

Donation protected
Whoever said winning isn't everything, obviously wasn't fighting cancer.

Alex is a bright, kind and active (almost) 11 year old boy that loves his Family, his Friends and the game of hockey.  Alex excelled this past hockey season making the Atom 1 team and playing goalie with his fellow Mavericks.  This season, Alex’s Mom, Tracy, sat nervously in the stands eating Tic Tac’s to calm her nerves.  She truly is a proud “Goalie Mom”.  Dean, Alex’s Dad, has always supported Alex and over the past couple years, he has seen such a big improvement to his skills in net.  These two parents are likely the proudest parents in their community!

In the past few months, Alex had been experiencing some back pain.  As the pain persisted Tracy and Dean took Alex to a chiropractor, physiotherapist and tried anything that they thought might help.  Nothing helped, the pain continued and Tracy and Dean needed more information. They knew something was wrong and through their fierce and persistent means were able to get Alex the MRI he needed.

Alex was taken to the Alberta Children’s hospital in Calgary for the MRI which showed a mass in his back surrounding a portion of his spine. A biopsy was ordered. The following days were filled with nervous anticipation awaiting the results of the biopsy. On April 4th, 2017, Alex was diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma, a rare childhood cancer. My goodness, I can barely spell that let alone know what this means! Imagine, one day you are thinking of simple things like the upcoming camping season, and what hockey camps Alex will attend this summer…..to hearing the words your son has cancer.

So this is where we ask for your support.  Parents do not plan for their kids to get sick.  There is no place in the budget for “when your child gets cancer”.  Unfortunately cancer did not wait for the Coles nor do they have time now to prepare for what is needed. This is where we, Alex’s extended Family, step in. We have an opportunity to remove some of the burden this family is facing so they can focus everything they have on one goal...getting a healthy Alex back into his goalie gear!  I know that as parents we think we can handle everything, but this journey is going to take more time, more energy and more resources from more people to achieve that goal. The battle has already begun and they must know that they are not fighting alone.

Please consider supporting Alex, Tracy and Dean Cole by removing some of the financial worry that is already begun to weigh heavily on them. As an example, for a 2 week supply of just one medication that Alex needs, it cost the Cole's $2800.  Insurance does not cover the full amount of medication!

As many of you know, Tracy runs a successful and loving dayhome.  During Alex's treatment, Tracy will not be able to accept sick kids into her dayhome, which means Tracy will not be paid for when kids are not there.  The family will have to be away for Alex's regular treatment and along with gas and the cost of being away the financial burden will continue to grow.

Much love, peace, and hope.
