Nicaragua Medical Brigade 2017

As some of you may know, this past summer I took a 10-day trip to Nicaragua and Costa Rica as part of Edwardsville High School's bi-annual Spanish immersion trip. Myself and 38 other EHS students and staff members got to experience something unforgettable.

Although both countries were incredible, it was apparent that Nicaragua was the less priveleged of the two. I personally had never experienced the effects of such major underdevelopment, and it was shocking to see how very different my own life was from those who resided in the cities and towns we visited. I never truly realized how lucky and priveleged we were as U.S. citizens until that point; and because of it, I cannot say how grateful I am to be one. This experience made me aware of how much these people could use help from people like us who have access to resources that enable us to have a comfortable, quality life. It has since been my goal to go back and help the impoverished people of Nicaragua seek a more healthy, happy, and easier life than what they currently do.

I have recently been given the opportunity to do as such. Myself along with 21 other members of the University of Alabama's Pre-Med and Nursing departments have been selected to travel to Nicaragua this upcoming March during the week of Spring Break as part of the university's Beyond Bama Medical Brigade for 2017.  Our medical mission will be going to Esteli, Nicaragua to travel with a team of local physicians, catering to local populations and their immediate needs. Because of the rural landscape, access to medical treatment is limited. Our efforts will bring care to many citizens who do not have the opportunity to obtain proper healthcare for themselves or their families. It is my hope to raise $1200 by the end of February 2017 to fund our efforts and bring these people a sense of relief and comfort from their current situations.

Words cannot express how truly appreciated any amount of donation, small or large, will be to this cause. Contributions put towards this trip will not only benefit the team and I, but also, most importantly, the people who will be recieving care and treatment as a result.

In choosing to donate, I want to thank you so very much for supporting me in this endeavor. Please know your time and resources are being put towards a cause that is helping to bring light to all corners of the world.
