If any of you have had the pleasure to meet Alex Marschalk, then you know that he is a humble man of character and morals and will do anything to help out friend, family or stranger.   I am writing about his story with the hope that we can all give back to this man that I, like many others, are proud to call a friend.

Alex was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called primary schlerosing cholangitis 20 years ago but has continued to manage the disease and live life to the fullest along with his wife Julie and daughter Eva.

The management of the disease has not been easy and there have many ups and  downs, but essentially his liver is failing. Everyone that knows Alex is praying and holding out hope that he would get a liver transplant in “time” but statistics show a larger percentage of those with O negative blood type ( the rarest and sadly Alex’s  blood type) expire while on that list for transplantation.

So, Alex and Julie have decided to be proactive and pursue Stem Cell Treatment. Unfortunately, American medicine does not provide this option for Alex’s disease and as a result they are having to travel to Bangkok Thailand in January for a 24 day treatment plan.

This therapy does not cure his liver disease but decreases the inflammation around his liver and bile ducts allowing his liver to essentially do the work it’s supposed to do as well as allow it to regenerate as it should.

They are bringing Eva with them as they would miss her and she would miss them terribly.

Julie has been working hard on arranging for this important journey and is preparing by making sure that the ladies she works with manage the small restaurant she works at, there is  a house and dog sitter, arranging for the necessary schooling of Eva, and coordinating with the gracious neighbours to provide for snow removal if necessary.

I know Alex is too humble to ever do this himself, so I wanted to set up this GoFundMe Page in an effort to give back and assist him, and Julie, for all that he has given to others.  I know that this will be an expensive endeavour and Alex and Julie will greatly appreciate anything that they receive.

Please keep Alex in your thoughts an prayers.
