Hello Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to read this. This donation fund is dedicated for Alex Chau's family - his loving wife Liz and their two beautiful children Katherine (11) and Alex Jr (9).

Our friend Alex, unexpectedly passed due to a sudden heart attack while on his first mountain bike ride last Sunday morning.

I was one of the riders with Alex Chau that day, along with his brother in law JR and friend  Stuart.  Although I am an experienced rider - it was everyone else's  first time on a real mountain trail (Cottonwood) and were excited, especially Alex.  He had recently gotten into biking and had been taking trails on pavement to get in better health for his family, but also for his enjoyment for the sport.  We went on an easy course to make sure everyone could follow and get acclimated to the terrain.  The weather was perfect and we took many stops to catch our breath.

We all were enjoying ourselves - most of all Alex. Even as he said that he was getting 'old', he was whooping and shouting with the joy with the new found thrill of riding downhill.  I laughed and reminded him that I was nearly a decade older.

We were nearing the end of our ride, when we had taken one last photo and were about to head down to our cars.  Alex briefly sat down to catch his breath and had fainted before we knew what had happened.   For the next half hour, he fought hard for his life, but sadly did not make it.

The strangers and fellow mountain bikers that stopped to help, were truly amazing and his family and I are filled with gratitude.  It meant the world to us that even though we did not know each other, you did not hesitate to stop and help.  We don't know any of your names, but Thank You. To the Chopper Medics. EMT's, Fire Fighters,  Law Enforcement and Rangers - we also thank you for doing all that you could using your blood, sweat and tears.

Alex  was only 38, with a wife and 2 beautiful young kids. He and his family were not aware that he had any heart conditions.   He is known by his family and friends to be loving and full of life.  He was an amazing father and loved his family with every ounce of his soul. Even in his last moments, he wanted to make sure his wife knew he loved her.

We have set up this page to help his family with the cost of funeral expenses and the sudden financial emergency that his wife and kids are left with. They are at a loss right now with not only a gaping hole in their lives, but no idea of where to begin the long difficult road ahead. If you can - please help, share or pray for him and his family in any small way you can.  His family and I appreciate you taking the time to read this message and thank you.

The Funeral Services will be held at:
