U23 Selection Dreams

Hello everyone,
Let me introduce myself. I am Alec Stapff, born in 1996, raised in Campbell River and have dreamt since a young age of being a national team athlete.
Some years ago that journey looked to include cross country skiing until for a variety of reasons I found myself exploring rowing at the University of Victoria.
Rowing has come at me like a storm and the commitment to the sport is like something I have never seen before. To make a long story short, last year I was a novice and this year I am on the cusp of earning a spot on the U23 national team.
I currently have been allowed to train in the National Training Centre alongside of other U23 hopefuls, world champions and Olympians that attended London and Rio! Having this opportunity has been incredible and is teaching me the skills required to believe that I can strive to reach the standard to represent Canada at the U23 world championships in Poznan, Poland this year. I am currently also working a job painting houses for a boss that will allow me to show up after the first session with the training center in the morning. I generally train for three hours in the morning, work for five hours and then go back for another two hour shift of rowing on the lake.
The other day I found myself overwhelmed by it all and I let my coach know that I may have to just focus on working as I felt I was letting my teammates down with my performances. My coach encouraged me to reach out for help to friends and family through a gofund me process in order to shorten the time that I have to continue to work.
I believe in hard work, perseverance and earning my own way so I am reaching out for help to narrow the gap between my daily living expenses and the need to train.
My target goal is $1500.00 as that will help to cover rent for a month and give me enough money for food so that I can spend the last 30 days before trials focused on preparation for the selection trials in London Ontario.
Any financial support you can afford to give would be rewarded by redoubled efforts to prove to you that your support was put in the right place.
