Al DelMonte Memorial Scholarship

Al DelMonte lived an energetic life. It was full of family and friends that he loved and cherished.  He also loved meeting and talking to  new people anywhere he went.  Anyone who ever heard of Al also knows that he had a huge love of sports.  From his early days on the playground to coaching as a parent, he was a mentor to many kids in the neighborhood.  He even moved on to serve as the Athletic Director at a Chicago Elementary school.  Once he became a grandparent, he found himself on the sidelines every weekend, watching and cheering on with an admirable energy and enthusiasm.  And if you met him on one of those sidelines, you'd know he had advice for all the kids!  He always took the time to give tips and pointers to his grandchildrens' friends and teammates as well. He valued athlete's teamwork, "coachability", and hustle.

In remembrance of Al's lifelong love of sports and for all the kids he mentored along the way, we (his wife Rita and their children, Chris & Shawn O'Brien & Nicole & Mike Junior) are setting up the Al DelMonte Memorial Scholarship fund to help High School Seniors with the cost of college.
