A Home For The Alcorns

Some of you already know Bobby and Angie through their website Tiny House America or their full time commitment to the National Tiny House Jamboree . For almost two years Bobby and Angie have dedicated their lives to supporting and educating others seeking a simple tiny life. Despite the multitude of obstacles the Alcorn family has faced, they have persevered and kept their focus on family, simplicity, happiness and community. This family of four is loved by so many and now they're in need of our help.

Even if you're not part of the Tiny House Community, there's a chance you know this couple for their enthusiastic personalities and their courage to pursue a simple "quality of life" for their two children.

Although you're probably unaware of the nightmare that's been unfolding in their personal life for over two years, Bobby and Angie managed to help pull off the largest tiny house gathering of all time. Their story is one that will inspire you no matter what your dream may be. We spoke with a close friend of the Alcorn's so that we could shed more insight into their devotion...

The Alcorn's story told by a long time friend...

When Bobby and Angie Alcorn decided they were tired of the stresses caused by a “pre-designed” lifestyle and that they wanted the opportunity for a more simple and sustainable life together as a family. They chose quality of life vs. a quantity in life approach... and decided that a tiny house seemed like the perfect solution.

After looking at tiny houses in the fall of 2013, they located what seemed to be the ideal builder. Although he was located in Oregon (and the Alcorn's were in Texas), everything sounded great. The builder told them everything they needed to hear and after a few months of conversations, they decided to hire him to construct their new tiny home. After making a $1,000 deposit in April 2014, the family of four began selling everything in preparations for their “tiny” move.

The Alcorn Family sold all their belongings and assets to invest in what they thought would be a quality of life for themselves and their children. They paid out another $20,000 over the next few months, and in June, Bobby moved to Oregon to be part of the build process. Angie and their two daughters moved to Oregon soon after, staying in temporary living quarters until their tiny house was to be completed in December of 2014.

But as delays starting to pile up one after the other, the Alcorn's began to get suspicious. They tried to ask questions and got nothing but a lot of excuses in return. Then, as the popularity of tiny houses began to grow, news and bad reviews about their builder began to spread.

In fact, it turned out, he was actually involved in previous litigations.

After confronting him several more times about the lack of progress, the situation got worse. They were eventually banned from the builders’ property and most of their calls and messages went unanswered.

He was trying to take their money and run.

The Alcorn's spoke to an attorney and were referred to the Contractors Construction Board to regain their money from the builder’s bond. But after eight months of waiting, they were denied his bond since the work was being done in his shop and not on the ground (meaning a contractor’s license was not required).

After additional attempts to negotiate a fair deal with the builder, he is refusing to work with them. Leaving the family of four and their two dogs to live in a 32 year old RV, while they face a lengthy civil lawsuit.

Enter Eagle Log Cabins, LLC. and Freedom-2-Thrive.org - The Feller family, Founders and Owners - Thomas, Vivian, and Warren. After meeting Angie through the Tiny House Jamboree, and then coming to learn about their situation… Then hearing Angie and Bobby’s love of log cabins and we began a communication journey early in 2015 to try and help.

After learning of their predicament, their journey, and their determination to try and pull up out of a seemingly hopeless situation, we developed a relationship, meeting in Oregon with them between our busy show schedule. After sitting down and meeting the Alcorn Family, Bobby who tries to keep their tiny rv functioning and shipshape, Angie who's sense of "Southern Hospitality" shines through in spite of her anxiety attacks under the pressure of their situation, their two beautiful children (one who has to deal with a heart condition, but still shines with her beautiful smile). And seeing their tiny RV they were trying to survive in… Wow! Unbelievable… but just a bit better than being on the sidewalks… And all the while they are still finding time to help others in-spite of their predicament… The company vowed to do everything in our power to help.

"We all have our own trials, our own journey… but this is an opportunity to right a wrong… one small step…" said Thomas.

We at Eagle Log Cabins, LLC. & Freedom-2- Thrive, Vivian, Thomas, and Warren are stepping up and asking everyones help to build this wonderful amazing family who in-spite of their own challenges, still take time to help others… Let us all help them to get their 300' square foot Tiny House!

The Alcorn Family were major contributors to the success of the first Tiny House Jamboree (August 2015 - Colorado Springs, CO). Their positive energy and tireless efforts helping to orchestrate, and then assist at the event… even as one might think their world was crumbling around them… We have nothing but admiration for their courage and fortitude! They are always ready to give or to lend a hand to anyone in need. Hospitable, kind, and compassionate… even in the face of homelessness!

A wise elder once said "The integrity of a person is not when things are going well, rather, how they handle things when in the face of adversity!"

After the Tiny House Jamboree, we sat down for 3 days with the Alcorn Family to design a house around their needs, and based upon the refund which they were promised by the contractor/builder.

The Alcorn's Tiny House was ordered and milled… but the Alcorn Family has no funds to cover because the contractor/builder has taken their money leaving the family struggling to provide a simple small roof over their head. With no refunds Eagle Log Cabins hands are tied to finish the delivery process despite the fact that there is absolutely no profit for the company, in-fact the company pulled deep from its own pockets to enable milling. Eagle Log Cabins just wants to see a happy ending for this amazing family.

"Please, help us all to provide a small simple solution for this family and avoid another family on the streets in this prosperous nation. Thank You!" - Eagle Log Cabins and Freedom-2-Thrive - The Feller Family

All funds will go directly to the Alcorn family. They are aware that we are creating this page for them and I know they will be grateful for everyone's help. No donation is too small. This family is of modest means and every little bit will help. Well wishes can be sent to them via Twitter to @TinyHouseUSA (use the hashtag #thdonation) or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TinyHouseAmerica.
