Hello everyone:   It's 2018 and hard to believe I have been working as an unpaid, volunteer, Alberta condo owner advocate for about seven (7) years ... and doing all possible, with the support of other valued volunteers, to be authentically be heard by the NDP and the previous Government. 

We have done everything we know how to do and all indications are the NDP will simply do what they want ... all at the expense of Alberta condo owners who will feel the negative effects in their property values, quality of life, and financial stability.

Our "Improvement Ideas" now number twenty-seven (27) and they specifically address shortcomings and loopholes in the current work-in-progress legislation the NDP wants to proclaim.  You can find the list at www.albertacondominiums.ca in the DOCUMENTS tab, top right.  Our ideas are best practices.  They are reasonable, workable, and will lessen:

condo complex conflict; bullying/harassment and intimidation of condo owners who speak up; abuse of power; secrecy of information; broken relationships; plummeting property values; "out of the blue" cash calls ; proxy abuse and the emotional upheaval and devastation that comes from the above. 

That appears not to matter to this Government but that does not mean we will stop pushing for the NDP to realize the catastrophic incompleteness and punishing nature of what they want to proclaim into law.

By way of introduction, here's some background on me and my condo work .  Hopefully it results in you being comfortable with my intent and my appeal for donations to fund future meetings and condo owner related activities. 

My name is June Donaldson and I live in a condo in Calgary.  I am a condo landlady and past condo board member and president.  As a near 40 year condo owner veteran I have been deeply troubled by Alberta condo legislation which I believe is incomplete and punishing against Alberta condo owners.

Over the past seven (7) years, I have spent thousands of unpaid, volunteer hours (and a great deal of money) creating information appealing to both past and present Governments to make condominium legislation more inclusive, fair and balanced to condo owners, those of us who: 

pay all the condo complex bills and special assessments;

contribute to the  pay, perks, and pensions of condo managers and other condo industry insiders;

are the economic engine behind condo industry successes

and represent the single largest stakeholder group of all condo related stakeholder groups in Alberta.  

With the exception of one donation (for which I am very grateful and that I applied to my over $600.00 FOIP invoices), up until establishing this Go Fund Me site, I've personally paid all the bills:  the domain name and website, email marketing programs, office supplies, FOIP document fees, couriers, phones, artwork, gas to travel to meetings, long distance and you know the rest.

Now, supporters support me establishing this page as we want to expand our presence not only in Alberta, but nation wide.  That is why we released, on January 1, 2018, a petition to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to establish a "Canadian Condominium Owner Bill of Rights".  It's time ... it appears Provincial legislation  looks after the condo industry insiders, and that includes condo boards, at the expense of the owners!

NO ONE on our volunteer team is paid - the only money spent is on direct out of pocket expenses. All our financial records are posted at www.albertacondominiums.ca in the DOCUMENTS tab so check it out ... you'll see openness and transparency on all expenses.

When we are successful with our "mission" any money left will be split 50/50 between the Veteran's Food Bank and the Alberta SPCA. 

Our window of time to increase our visibility and voice is small.  Condo legislation, once proclaimed, will be in place for years, if not decades.  We MUST lessen the imbalance of power between the Government, condo boards, and other condo industry insiders against Alberta condo owners and we can't do it alone or without money.

Hello - I have a problem and I need your feedback please.

Here's my story:
1. I do not profess to be a Facebook expert - far from it!
2. Last night I was looking at my personal Facebook pages and I saw all the thank you notes that I have written to financial contributors over the years.
3. I didn't realize the thank you notes were being posted on MY personal Facebook pages.
4. Then I started worrying that perhaps YOU didn't receive my thank you note(s) and that is my dilemma. 5. If you DID receive my note, you don't have to respond to this note.
6. If you DID NOT receive my thank you note, PLEASE let me know because I need to figure out why you wouldn't have received it because I have written a thank you note for every single donation.

In my next life I am going to come back social media proficient, but in the meantime, I need to hear from you if you DID NOT receive a thank you note.

In the meantime, please know that we appreciate every single penny that you have contributed to our mission of making Alberta's condominium legislation more inclusive, fair and balanced to those of us who pay all the condo complex bills; contribute to the pay, perks, and pensions of condo industry insiders; are the foundation of all condo industry successes, and who are the single largest stakeholder group of ALL condo related stakeholder groups.

Hello everyone!

Heads up: Service Alberta has been having, right up until today, condominium legislation meetings with “key stakeholder groups”.

We, the Alberta Condo Act Team – ACAT, were not invited to participate. We wrote to Min. Stephanie McLean about this exclusion and plans are underway now for us to meet with Service AB within the next two weeks.

That said I received, yesterday, seven (7) “Discussion Guides” that relate to the content of the above meetings Service Alberta has been having. I sent a newsletter this morning on the importance of condominium owners knowing the content of these Guides and seeing for yourself how many of our Improvement Ideas are included in the Guides. They are located at www.albertacondominiums.ca in the DOCUMENTS tab - top right.

Please make sure you received the newsletter and check your junk or spam folder. If you need a copy of the newsletter just let me know and I’ll send you one. Thanks for your support – we are closing in on this legislation becoming a reality and we need your voice and visibility. To be continued ….

Article on BC's Civil Resolution Tribunal. Let's push the NDP Government/Service Alberta to establish this model in Alberta and not some homegrown, ineffective, light weight, fluffy process that doesn't have scope, depth and "teeth".

Hi Dr. Donaldson, Please accept this additional token of our appreciation for leading the cause for ALL Condo Owners in Alberta with ACAT's 26 Improvement Ideas to Edmonton! Best of luck in the tentative meeting on February 13th. Hopefully Service Alberta will not only listen and discuss but incorporate many of the 26 Improvement Ideas in the upcoming legislation!

Hi Dr. Donaldson, As many of us Owners across this province have already found out, there are Board of Directors/Property Managers that not only redact but "non-transparently" hide and do not/will not disclose many financial and other important condominium corporation matters, even when requested as provided for in the Condominium Property Act. We have often witnessed, many documents supposedly reviewed by our Board and Property Manager, are misleading, do not reflect the subject matter properly, are inaccurate and contain incorrect financial numbers. We know recently, when we have asked certain "tough" questions of our Board, we ended up with a "Cease and Desist" threat from a lawyer hired by our Board of Directors with OUR money!!! We all need to fight this and are in the process - folks need to use the Law Society, the Minsters, the Premier and their MLA's (we are waiting of ours to be voted in here in Calgary - Lougheed).
