Help Heal Alanna

Donation protected
I'm writing on behalf of my daughter Alanna. We had a tragic kitchen
fire in our apartment. It all started with a deep fryer of oil that
exploded in the kitchen. Alanna was no where near the kitchen. As the
fire started to become uncontainable, I grabbed the extinguisher and did
as I was suppose to do. Even though the extinguisher was meant for
grease fires, it made it much worse. The fire spread up to the cabinets
and large flames were shooting out everywhere. The apartment then became
full of smoke and dust from the extinguisher. Alanna was in the bedroom
and did exactly what she was suppose to do and ran out of the apartment
to the bottom of the steps. Alanna's father had came in and did what he
thought was the right thing to do in that moment. He decided to grab the
fryer and to try and throw it outside. As he was running out of the
apartment, the fryer engulfed into huge flames again, catching the
living room carpet on fire, as well as his hands and wrists. As he was
getting burned, he tripped out the door and the grease went outside. We
thought that we saved our family from harm, but it was to our dismay
that Alanna was not all the way down the steps. She was on a landing in
between the two sets of steps. She was severely burned with grease on
the right side of her body and on her left leg. She was helivacaced to
St. Christopher's Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She
received the best care from the Special Care Burn Unit with wonderful
nurses, doctors, social workers, staff and volunteers. They have been
unforgettably AMAZING and I truly am greatful for everything they have
done or have tried to do. She was in this unit for 20 days where she had
undergone 3 surgeries, as well as skin grafting. The surgeon highly
recommended us to approve using her scalp skin to replace the skin on
the back of her leg and foot. We decided to take her recommendation
feeling that Alanna would not have to endure so many visible scars in us
doing so. She has been so unforgettably strong and brave through this
tragic accident. I have been extremely overwhelmed, the special garments and boots in which she needs to wear to recover are not covered by her insurance. We also must travel back and forth to Philadelphia every week
for therapy, surgeon and fitting appointments. Without donations like
yours, my Alanna would have to go without the proper care. Thank you so
much for your support!
