Please meet Alan:

He loves fishing, the NY Giants, his fur babies, and his best friend and partner Vicki.  Anyone who has ever met him, knows how much he loves to eat and that he gives the best hugs.   Alan prides himself on staying physically fit, has won many power lifting and body building competitions.

He proudly served the in US Army, worked as a Teamster for 25 years, and at the age of 50, fulfilled his dream of becoming a registered nurse.  He has worked in the ER, had the honor of caring for our nation's veterans and spending the last moments of their life with his patients at Hospice House of Savannah.  Throughout his life he has conquered many hurdles and has been called "the strongest man I know" by many who have crossed his path.

Alan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Laryngeal Squamous Cell Sarcoma, on February 1, 2018.  Due to the aggressive nature of this cancer, his care was prioritized and he quickly started treatment with  hopes of a good prognosis.  Alan fought hard, with Vicki by his side every step of the way.  He completed treatment and hoped for the day that their life would be back to normal, the "new" normal.

This past Saturday, Alan planned to drop Vicki off at work in the ER and then go fishing.  To Alan, fishing makes everything better.  Once they arrived at Vicki's job, Alan just didn't feel right.  He couldn't breathe well.  Alan walked in with Vicki,  she clocked in to work, he signed in as a patient.

Good decision Alan.   His airway was almost completely occluded.  The radiation treatment didn't work.   Not only was his cancer worse, it had spread to his lungs.  Alan planned to fish that day but  ended up in the ICU with a tracheostomy to breathe and a gastrostomy tube for nutrition.  Vicki has remained at his bedside.

We hope your generosity will help offset some of the  cost associated with Alan's care and help ensure he can use what strength he has to fight for his life,  not to worry about his family.  Please, help us show him he's not alone on the journey.  Vicki will be accepting your donations on Alan's behalf, to help provide care and comfort.
