Following the tragic death of Alan Neill, we are raising funds to pay for vets fees and other related costs for Alan's dogs that were involved in the accident, one of which is currently undergoing surgery.

Alan was known to many, a larger than life character who was full of kindness, help and advice. Always smiling,  never short of a story or two (and the odd dodgy joke!) he will be sadly missed among his friends in the dog world and on the trialling circuit.

As well as an owner, trainer and handler of many dogs, anyone who knew Alan would know how devoted he was to his dogs, and his dogs in turn simply idolised him.

Any amount given will help towards the bills that are already mounting up for the ongoing treatment of Alan's dogs. Thankyou for reading.

Update 4

Hi Everyone

As it's been six months since the GoFundMe campaign to help Alan Neill's dogs was launched, we thought it time to update the generous contributors as to what the donations have helped with so far.

In excess of £5,000 has been spent on the treatment of Alan's dogs so far, including expenses for veterinary consultations, hospitalisation (at a specialist facility), IVs, initial and follow up xrays, catheterisation, pain relief, antibiotics, surgery including wiring/screws, cast fitting, follow up examinations, multiple dressing changes, sedation and complimentary therapies including physio and hydrotherapy.

As more than one dog has been treated it's difficult to list absolutely everything that your kind generosity has helped pay for, but as you can see, much good work has been done so far and it is ongoing.

The most seriously injured dog (Piper) continues to make good progress and was allowed off the lead for the first time following the accident in December.

Alan's oldest dog Dawn (Eagleshadow Winnie's Boy born 04/01/05) was recently sadly put to sleep due to a stroke, he had made a good recovery from being involved in the accident and had enjoyed his life with Sue Langford until his passing.

The expenses towards Alan's dogs veterinary costs etc. will be ongoing, but due to the kindness of each and every one of you, their future welfare with regard to ongoing costs is taken care of and those closest to Alan are very grateful.

Update 2

Hi Everyone

Another update! The fund has taken off beyond all expectations and exceeded our target. People have been truly amazing.

The most seriously injured of Alan’s dog has undergone his initial surgery and come through it well, and after a stay of several days as an inpatient at a specialist orthopaedic hospital, he’s now home and being cared for by Georgina and David Hudson. Alan’s other dogs are at home with Sue Langford, and being cared for there,.

In the interest of clarity and transparency, funds for the initial bills will be withdrawn from the fund direct to myself, and I will then settle the bills direct with the vet hospital and vet surgeries. All monies into the fund are listed, and all monies via me for vet fees and ongoing therapy will have receipts etc and everything is traceable.

Those closest to Alan are grateful for the enormous support, and are aware that as the fund has been more successful that any of us could’ve hoped, it may be that there ends up being a slight surplus. There needs to be a ‘buffer’ kept to one side for the ongoing therapy that the dogs will need, and also for general care of Alan’s own dogs as they age. These injuries could have lasting implications and the generosity shown will ensure the best care is available for the dogs into the future.

Going forward, in the event of a slight surplus, it would be nice if each and everyone of you had some input or gave suggestions of how you all think we could best honour Alan. Two thoughts so far are firstly a donation made in Alan’s name to the SSPCA who gave exemplary care immediately following the accident in terms of emergency vet care and housing of the dogs involved in the accident, they were fantastic during an awful situation. The second suggestion is to honour Alan at a trial held in his memory with a memorial trophy donated ‘by the friends of Alan Neill’. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi All, it’s Linda. As you know I was asked by friends closest to Alan Neill to organise this appeal to raise funds to cover vets fees and costs incurred so far and ongoing for his own dogs that were injured in the tragic accident that Alan sadly lost his life in. The most seriously injured dog Piper has had initial surgery and has been in an orthopaedic specialist vet hospital since the accident. He’s doing well considering but will have a long road ahead of him to recover. The money raised here will be paid directly to the hospital, vets and therapists from these funds. The amount raised so far is absolutely fantastic, everyone has been so generous in ensuring that the mounting and not inconsiderable bills can be met. We all know how much Alan loved his dogs, and it’s fabulous to know everyone cares so much to make sure that the best treatment is possible. Thankyou all so very much xx
