Medical Expenses for Cancer Treatments

Donation protected
A little over a year ago, my husband, Tim Goodman, began to develop symptoms of atrial fibrillation (a fib) which all stemmed fro his massive heart attack years ago.  Different tests were performed at which time, his cardiologist and electophysiologist confirmed he was in a fib and debated on implanting a defibrillator.  Fortunately, they were able to get his afib under control by performing a heart ablation along with a lot of different medications.  As a result, he was forced into retirement which in turn left him without health insurance and has since been on social security disability.

Over a period of time, Tim began to suffer extreme fatigue, weakness and shortness of breath which eventually became quite severe.  He was always feeling cold and his blood pressure began to become frighteningly low.  He also began to develop gastrointestinal pain which began to increase and became so severe I decided to bring him to the emergency room.  The doctors discovered Tim was very anemic and his hemoglobin was only at 6.5 where abnormal adult male should have a hemoglobin count at 15.  He was immediately admitted into the hospital on 3/3/19 and had a blood transfusion of 2 units of blood performed that evening.  A colonoscopy was also performed the next day where a large tumor/mass was discovered in the lower section of his colon which they took a small sample and sent it off the the pathology lab.  A few days later, we were informed Tim had Stage 3 colon cancer.

On 3/8/19,  surgery was performed and 12" of the colon was removed in order to get as much of the tumor/mass gone.  However, at that time the cancer was found to have invaded his lower abdominal wall which was removed as well as part of the bladder where the cancer began to also invade.  The surgeons also removed any lymph nodes that may have also been invaded with cancer.  Tim was finally discharged from the hospital on 3/14/19 although we did have two emergency room visits within five days of his homecoming.

During his surgery, a port was placed in his upper chest area where he will be receiving chemo therapy beginning on 4/22/19.  After his 3-4 hours of chemo therapy, he will be sent home with a pump attached to his port which will finish the chemo therapy within 48 hours.  Once completed two days later,  he will return to the doctors office and have the pump removed.  He will return to the doctor's office the following week for blood work and return the following week for another round of chemo therapy.  This will be Tim's regiment for the next six months and hopefully there won't be any medical issues in between each visit.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Tim's story about the extensive changes that have taken place to his life.  It seems so surreal and hard to believe this is actually taking place.  We ask you for your thoughts and prayers for healing and remission.  Tim has no health insurance since he had to retire last year due to his declining health so any monetary gift that you can contribute towards his medical expenses will be most graciously welcomed and greatfully appreciated.  Thank you!
