Aire Place Studios Flood Appeal

Donation protected
Please help Aire Place Studios back on its feet
after the flood damage.

In Feb 2016, we had planned to open our doors after 12 months of hard work and self-funding, fuelled by the dream of a creative community space for all.

After the River Aire burst its banks we ended up with several feet of water in our newly built studio spaces, and fabrication area.

There has been significant damage to both the studio itself, as well as materails we had set aside to complete the rest of the project.

Given that we have no funding from external sources and have built this entirely from our own resources and labour, we are setting up this appeal as a last chance to help save Aire Place Studios, to create affordable, accessible and community run arts spaces in Leeds.

We are hoping to raise some funds to replace materials
, repair the studios, clean up and ensure for safe electrics and facilities once the floods have subsided.

Please help in any way you can, if you can get down to help with the clean up we will be eternally grateful!

End of another long day and yet more damaged items being throw. Thanks for all you support so far and all our helpers!

Aire Place Studios host 10 artist, who have also been effected by the flooding. Here Michelle is story.

'Hello, I'm one of the artists who had recently set up in one of the ground floor spaces in Aire Place Studios. I started studying for my MA in Creative Practice at Leeds College of Art in 2015 and was keen to find a studio space to call home. I fell in love with Aire Place Studios as soon as I visited, and was particularly impressed by all the hard work Sarah & Paul wereputting into creating an affordable & accessible artist community from scratch with a great ethos of reuse and recycling running through the construction.

It broke my heart when I heard about the flooding. The Studios were so close to completion; artists were starting to make their homes in the space and I was excited to meet everyone. Thanks to the quick thinking actions of some of my fellow artists my work was placed out of harms way and saved. I have lost the majority of my studio furniture though and won't be able to return to my studio until the floors and damaged walls have been cleaned, dried and replaced. In fact I haven't even been able to go down to the studio since the flooding as I suffer from a complicated autoimmune disease and have to take medication which completely suppresses my immune system in order to function on a day to day basis and which makes the current environment down at Aire Place a massive health risk for me.

I have felt completely useless since the floods. I will never be able to adequately express the level of my gratitude to my partner, fellow artists and studio mates who have kept me up to date remotely and are working so hard to save Aire Place Studios. And a massive thank you to each and every person who has donated their time or money to help save our developing artist community. You are making more of a difference than you will ever know ~ alabamathirteen

'hand play' - they deal with pain & feeling discombobulated by Michelle Duxbury

We desperately need the following:

Mitre saw
Flooring
Wood - either CLS boards or 18mm MDF
Workshop vacumn cleaner
Photocopier
Printer
Skirting Board
Shelving Units

It doesn't have to be brand new and pretty - Free or very cheap would be preferable.

if you're able to help us in any way or can connect us with someone who can.
