About three years ago, Abigail fell ill with flu-like symptoms.  Week after week her symptoms progressively got worse until she was bed ridden most days. After almost a year or searching for answers, Abigail was diagnosed with Dysautonomia. This is a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system that controls the 'automatic' functions of the body, such as, heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion to name a few. People living with various forms of Dysautonomia have problems with light headedness, fainting, malnutrition, and more.

Abigail suffers from many of these symptoms and also has Gastroparesis (caused by the Dysautonomia). Due to the Gastroparesis she requires a feeding tube for most of her nutrition. She spends many hours traveling out of state to see specialists, having tests run, undergoing surgeries, visiting the ER, and recieves routine IV infusions/fluids.

So far many of the treatments they’ve tried have had little to no success in helping her regain her life back. Her doctors are in the process of trying to find the root cause of her dysautonomia, as well as seeking treatments that will help her have a better quality of life.

Abigail has a tenacious spirit and has fought this battle with so much strength and grace! Even on her worst days she finds a way to smile.  Please help the Blockhan family as they struggle both financially and emotionally to help sweet Abigail fight these horrible conditions!

Thank you and God bless you.

Thank you all for your support for Abigail and her family. They have been so blessed and blown away by everyone’s generosity. Between the Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser, the Horn Carving raffle and various donations they have received over $15,000!!! Such a huge blessing!!!

In the recent months Abigail’s health was continuing to decline as each day passed and many of her doctors were perplexed. She spent a lot of time bedridden and in and out of the hospital. One of her doctors decided to follow a hunch and ran a few tests to look into something called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, or MCAS for short. His hunch was confirmed when the tests came back positive! Mast cells are a part of our immune system and play a role in inflammation, defending against pathogens, and are involved in wound healing and tissue repair. They’re found in most of the tissue throughout our body, especially those that interact with the outside environment, including the lungs, gastrointestinal tract and skin.* In someone with MCAS the mast cells react inappropriately and excessively release chemical mediators resulting in a range of chronic symptoms such as headaches, cognitive dysfunction, bone/muscle pain, cardiovascular symptoms, gastrointestinal distress and much more. Having this positive diagnoses MCAS helped explain many of the chronic symptoms Abigail has been struggling with. Unfortunately this is a poorly misunderstood condition, and is in the beginning stages of research. Abigail’s doctors are trying various treatments, medications and lifestyle changes to try and help stabilize the mast cells in her body.

Abigail still travels out of state regularly to see her various specialists that are in CA, WA and RI and could still use support as they continue to travel and seek further treatment. Travel expenses add up quickly, and some of the prescriptions Abigail needs are not currently covered by insurance. Thank you for your continued prayers and support for Abigail and her family!
