Hare Krishna!

I'm Indradyumna Swami from Vrindavan, India. I have initiated this campaign on behalf of Agnideva Das who has been my friend for over 40 years.

This is an urgent appeal to devotees all over the world.

On October 14, 2017, His Grace Agnideva das, a most beloved devotee and servant of Srila Prabhupada was rushed to a hospital in Sydney with a collapsed lung, and was deemed 'gravely ill' by the doctors there. Unfortunately his conditioned necessitated that he be placed in an induced coma in ICU, as his lungs were not functioning properly, as well as there being possible cardiac issues.

To most people, he needs no introduction - his voice has been heard in homes and hearts all over the world for over 40 years. Prabhu has spent his entire life serving the holy name and endeavoring to share it with others. He is a jewel amongst kirtan leaders, and his pure kirtan and bhajan have the capacity to awaken devotion in the hearts of everyone. He inspires young and old alike, and always takes time to befriend and encourage devotees wherever he goes.

He has a deep and seasoned understanding for the songs of the Vaishnava acaryas. He sings them at every opportunity and his contribution to the kirtan world is unique in this regard.

Initially, he was on ventilator as he was unable to breath on his own. He was sedated because of the discomfort caused by a breathing tube. Through transesophageal echocardiography, doctors found that the mitral valve in his heart was leaking ( a prolapse ) leading to the buildup of fluid in his lungs.

On Oct 28, doctors conducted a CT scan of Agnideva’s chest. Amazingly after this test the lung drainage system showed zero fluid. As a result, the doctors removed the drainage pump with tubes from his lungs. They also stopped administering oxygen. He was happy to have his first shower in 2 weeks as well as have some ice, water and juice. On Oct 31, he was moved out of ICU and into the Respiratory ward.

After that he was very conscious for a few days, aware and cognizant and spoke a lot about Lord Nityananda’s mercy. He stood up and moved his feet forward and backward 10 times. However, on Nov 13, a CT scan showed that fluid had started to accumulate in his lungs again. He vomited a large clot of blood. His doctors became concerned and stopped all intake of food and liquids, and put him back on an IV drip. In addition to the faulty Mitral Valve in his heart, he has a clogged LAD artery [ the main artery serving the heart. ] and another smaller blocked artery in his heart as well. So, they transferred him back to ICU for an open heart surgery.

On Nov 17, Agnideva Prabhu had a double bypass heart surgery. The doctors said that the operation was successful and without any complications. He will be in an induced coma until Nov 19 and will be kept in ICU for one or two weeks to help him recover.

Unfortunately he had not been traveling with insurance, and the hospital bills are mounting up. The ICU costs approximately US $6,000 per day while the special ward costs $4,000 a day. The initial treatment during the last month along with the open heart surgery and recovery expenses is estimated to cost US $180,000.

We beg you to please give from your heart to support this precious devotee in a time of great need. The funds will be used for paying the hospital bills of Agnideva Das. Agnideva Prabhu's son Sadbhuja Marsden who is based in Oregon, USA has volunteered to receive the donations in his bank account and will take charge of working with the hospital to pay the bills in collaboration with my students in  Australia Sakhi Rai Das and Sundarananda Gopal Das.

Dear devotees, friend and well-wishers:

This is an update on Agnideva prabhu. In fact, it will be the final update on this GoFundMe page as he is doing very well! Yesterday his physio-therapist at rehab took away his walker saying that Agnideva prabhu can now walk unaided on his own. Last Friday, he was given an endurance test and asked to walk as far as he could for 6 minutes. He did very well. He will be discharged tomorrow and will move into an apartment with his son Sadbhuja dasa and his daughter-in-law, Jackie in Sydney. Next Friday, he will have a post-surgery cardiac evaluation after which he will attend a prescribed physio/exercise course as an outpatient at the hospital. It will be around 3-4 weeks before his breathing is back to normal and when safe he will fly back to Portland to stay at Sadbhuja’s home.

Once again, we would like to thank everyone who donated towards his recovery. To date the fund-raising has brought in close to $141,000. In consultation with the hospital and his rehab, we feel this amount will be sufficient for past, present and future expenses for Agnideva prabhu. We will present a full list of all expenses soon on Agnideva's Facebook page. It is heartwarming to have seen so many devotees, friends and well-wishers come forward to support him in his time of need.

We would like to also like to thank the following devotees who attended to Agnideva prabhu’s personal needs while he was in hospital:

His son Sadbhuja and his daughter in law Jackie
Pavitram and Kavita
Assem and Diviya Aurora

Bhagavad Ashraya dasa and Sarva Mangala dasi

A special thank you to Jahnavi Jivana dasi for her special efforts in raising funds for Agnideva prabhu.

Dear devotees, friends and well wishers,

Here is the latest update on Agnideva Prabhu:

Several days ago he was moved from the hospital to a 24-hour medically supervised rehabilitation center. There each day he is receiving 5 hours of physiology therapy and exercise sessions especially designed for patients of open heart surgery with respiratory problems. This therapy is spread over two sessions; morning and afternoon.

His appetite is good and his heart monitors have been removed. It is uncertain how long he will be there. After his discharge from the center he will have to do out-patient physiotherapy for two to three weeks. His recuperation period has been estimated to be 6 weeks. Today they made Agnideva prabhu walk up and down the treatment hall 20 times forward and 20 times backward with no walker. The doctor in charge was pleasantly surprised at his performance.

Our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have donated towards his medical expenses and ongoing treatment!

Your servant,
Indradyumna Swami

Dear Devotees, friends and well-wishers,

The following is an update on Agnideva prabhu’s condition. Unfortunately, the news is not good.

A recent CT scan showed that fluid had started to accumulate in his lungs again. Two days ago when he vomited the nurses discovered a large clot of blood. His doctors became concerned and stopped all intake of food and liquids, and put him back on an IV drip.

The next day they did an angiogram and discovered that in addition to the faulty Mitral Valve in his heart, he has a clogged LAD artery [ the main artery serving the heart. ] They also discovered another smaller blocked artery in his heart as well.

Understanding the urgency of his condition, the cardio thoracic surgeons, the respiratory team, the neurologists and the intensive care team met. At the conclusion of the meeting they transferred him back to ICU. They have scheduled open heart surgery for this coming Friday morning. They will replace the Mitral Valve and conduct a double bypass surgery. They will also, if required, take same samples of his lungs and heart for a further biopsy analysis.

Agnideva prabhu’s condition remains very serious. As we had not anticipated the costs of open heart surgery and a prolonged recovery period in our initial fundraising campaign, we are humbly requesting devotees to continue donating. The estimated cost of open heart surgery and recovery expenses is $80,000.

Please keep Agnideva prabhu in your prayers.

Your servant,
Indradyumna Swami
