Aging Vet About to Lose His Home

Donation protected
My friend's father is 80 years old, and is in danger of losing his home, and will soon without some generous assistance.  As they are not completely comfortable with the internet, I volunteered to post this for them.  If you can possibly help at all, they would be so very grateful.

He is in desperate need of the following:

     * $7200 for overdue property tax bill to save his house from being seized by the county at the end of May

     * $2000 additional, if possible, to get a jump on the new tax bill that is upcoming

     * Anything additional would go towards  things like:  Repairing the 30 year old roof.   Replacing a couple of very old, drafty, poorly- functioning windows in the house, to help lower the utility bills.  Either repairing or replacing the old water heater (the jury is still out on which one is needed).  Making some electrical repairs.  Even buying a new set of dentures or a new pair of diabetic shoes would greatly improve the quality of his life!

Here is a little history from his daughter:

Our dad grew up in a farm family with strong Christian values.  He served our country with dignity and distinction in the US Army during the Korean War era.  After being discharged from the army, he went right to work.  He worked extremely hard his whole life to provide for his family.   He was always smart, loving, and insightful, being very much the heart and conscience of the family.  He was "handy."  He fixed things, and built things, and grew things.  He was never idle for any length of time, until severe medical problems finally started taking a toll.  And now, though his mind is as sound as it ever was, being physically reliant on assistance with day to day activities weighs heavily on him.

He was married for over 50 years, and lost his beloved wife to leukemia a few years years ago.  Not a day goes by that he does not mourn her.  He is a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, always putting the needs of his family first over his own, often to his own detriment.  That was always just his way; there was no stopping him.  But because of this, he did not "retire comfortably."

In every way you can think of, he is truly one of the finest people you will ever meet.  But sadly, like many senior citizens in our country, a combination of a long life, an inadequate fixed income, and steadily increasing medical expenses have all combined to cause some financial hardships that he's running out of solutions for.   And now, his possession of the home he has owned for 42 years is in jeopardy because of overdue property taxes.

By the end of May, the county will seize his home if he isn't able to pay what should have been well within his means, if there were any justice in the world for good people.

On his behalf (because he'd never do it himself!), the family is asking for as much help as possible, even over and beyond the past-due tax bill.    Just in general, any help he receives will take care of a number of things, some small and some not so small, that fell by the wayside while he focused so much on taking care of the rest of his family for so many years.

Any help, however small, would be so greatly appreciated by this kind, good, hardworking family who has fallen on some really tough times over the past couple of years.
