AGD supports our sister Ashley

Ashley has been an amazing sister of the Epsilon Psi chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta for the past 2 years, she has brought nothing but inspiration and joy to every member.

Our sister was born with a condition called hemangioma. Hemangioma is an over growth of red blood vessels in places they should not grow. These red blood vessels grew in her ears, across the surface of her face, and down her airway. As a result, the hemangioma impaired her ability to breathe. The doctors had to insert a silicone tube down her airway in procedure called a tracheostomy so that she could breathe. Unfortunately, the doctors didn’t know that she also had a severe contact allergy to silicone. The skin and area around the tube left substantial scaring and the doctors had to create a barrier of gauze between the tube and her skin so that she could continue to have the tube to breathe. She had to depend on the tube to breathe for the first two years of her life. After therapy from around the clock nurses she learned to breathe on her own and the tube was removed. From then on, she went on to live a normal life and she overcame these obstacles and grew to be an amazing woman. Ashley attends UT Dallas as a Computer Science Major, and she loves to swim and spends time with her friends and family.

Recently Ashley went to the doctor and now has been diagnosed with Tracheal Stenosis. Tracheal Stenosis is caused by the narrowing of the airway because of scar tissue damage. This condition is usually found in people in their late teens that have experienced having a tracheal tube at birth like Ashley. This diagnosis has brought answers to why Ashley has been experiencing shortness of breath and constant fatigue. Tracheal Stenosis is treatable with surgery but can be life threating if left untreated. Along with all the emotional stress that her family is under they also do not have any medical insurance. Ashley and her family are doing their best emotional and financially despite everything that has happened to them recently to get through such a sensitive time.

On top of being an amazing student and sister, she has been physically fighting with grace and courage. With as much as much emotional and financial stress as a situation like this can cause, we hope to make the financial stress a little smaller. We want to show our love and support for Ashley, and we hope that you can find it in your heart to do so as well.
