One of our driver-partners has a tough road ahead of her. We’re inspired by her story and fighting spirit.
Melinda began partnering with Uber almost 3 years ago after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She had to quit her job in retail management because she could no longer work a set schedule. In her words, “Uber enables me to deal with a disease that controls so much of my life and lets me be my own boss where I couldn’t at my previous job. It has been my road to success.”
Melinda is part of a driver-to-driver mentorship program in which she hosts meetups for her fellow driver-partners to network and share pro-tips. “Being a mentor and bringing other partners together is very rewarding—it’s so exciting to see them form close bonds and friendships with each other and I love being a part of that.” Outside of Uber, Melinda enjoys old world traditions like Irish lacemaking and loves eclectic crafting of all kinds.
Melinda was recently diagnosed with gastric cancer. She will undergo surgery next week to determine the severity and progression of her cancer. To our amazement, Melinda plans to drive up to the day of the surgery. Post-surgery, she will need to spend 10 days recovering in the hospital, which will greatly impact her income as a driver who uses Uber.
Melinda is part of our community and we’re honored to call her our partner. Right now, she could use a helping hand.
