Lacrosse | A Dragons Dream

Donation protected
Hello everyone, I’m Thomas.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my page, knowing that there are people out there willing to support me means a lot. I am passionate about lacrosse and knowing people do want to believe in you. It can brighten up the hardest of days.

You’re probably thinking what’s lacrosse?.. Keep reading you’ll get to that bit..

Lacrosse in a nut shell.

The sport of Native American origins is played with a long-handled-stick and a rubber ball. Men’s lacrosse consists of a teams of 10 players working together to throw a ball into the opposing team's net. U.S. Lacrosse describes it as a "combination of basketball, soccer and hockey," rewarding "coordination and agility, not just all out brawn." It can be played outdoors and indoors, with the size of the field and team varying by league type.

So, why do I need your help?

Overall, I will need to raise upwards of £3000 but I only need your help to raise £1500. The rest I will work for but any financial help would be a huge benefit and massively appreciated. If you are able to help in any other way just email me at [email redacted].

Lacrosse is a non-commonwealth, non-Olympic sport, therefore elite lacrosse receives no funding and ultimately relies on the players to cover all their expenses; equipment, travel, uniforms, tournament fees, training fees, insurance and field rental.   As a player who is balancing a part time job at night, studying along with being an elite level athlete, I appreciate any support you can offer!

A little about me.

I am a 28 years old ambitious athlete.I train full time at University of South Wales as well as being a student there studying BEng (Hons) Mechanical engineering. I play for my local team the Cardiff Harlequins in the southern premiership as well as my university lacrosse team.

I started my degree last year as a mature student, this was always a daunting decision for me as I’d been thinking of doing it for a few years while working full time. I hit a glass roof so to speak with my last job and couldn’t progress further without having a degree, I was told.

I decided to leave my job and go to university.  I used to think that I would get older regretting not attempting to do a degree, the hardest part is picking one you enjoy.

I want to inspire young people not just within the Lacrosse community, share my story and this is my opportunity to achieve my goal in representing Wales in the 2018 World Championships.

I am training hard in preparation for the 2018 FIL Netanya Men’s Lacrosse World Championships, check out my video if you want to know a bit more.

The 2018 FIL Netanya Men’s Lacrosse World Championships will see 57 countries battling it out on from 12th - 21st July to be called number one in the world. If you wish to find out more check out the link at the bottom.

Lacrosse has been a part of my life since the age of 17. I remember when a few of my friends at school came in with these funny shaped sticks with nets on them and they told me about the sport. I was fascinated I wanted to know what it was like. I’d tried ever sport my school had to offer and was committed to training every morning with the school boxercise program. I went to one of the lacrosse training sessions held at the local club and that was it… I was hooked.

Giving something back.

I will donate 20% of the total raised to The Christie Charity. The Christie is the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe and an international leader in research and development.

Why? You ask well. In 2016 my Mum, grandmother and grandad all received treatment from The Christie, they were there every step of the way. This my opportunity to give something back.

In addition to this, for every £500 I receive via this page, I will run up these three mountains in South Wales: Crybin, Corn Du and Pen Y Fan.

Below you can see a cartoon representation of my journey. As the amount donated increases, my little character will move across the 3 mountains closer to the goal of claiming the £1500 flag on the summit of Pen Y Fan.

To keep you with me as I embark on this journey, I will share with you GPS images of my routes and photos along the way, make sure you stay tuned in for updates!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I've only got one more thing to ask of you, please share this far and wide to help me achieve my dream and inspire others!

Kind regards

Thomas
