Connemarathon in aid of Breast Cancer Research

My Mum's Story
Máire was a loving mum, wife and friend and a caring and devoted doctor. However in August 2011 she became the patient herself after being diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. While she showed unquestionable strength and determination, her fight was against one of the most resistant streams of the disease to treatment. After five years of chemo, radiation therapy, further diagnoses and surgery, her hard fought battle came to an end in March 2017.
Through the countless number of different treatments my mum had over the course of her illness, the importance of ongoing research into new and improved treatment methods became all too apparent to me and my family. I hope to do her proud by raising money for an organisation devoted to advancing breast cancer treatments
The Connemarathon
Thinking that a 42.2km run wasn't difficult enough, I selected the undulating roads of Connemara for the scene of my first ever marathon. The race takes place on Sunday the 14th of April, starting in Lough Inagh, heading up to Leenane before returning to Maam Cross.
Breast Cancer Research (formerly NBCRI)
I'm raising money for Breast Cancer Research which is a national charity that funds a comprehensive research programme at the National University of Ireland, Galway. We know that breast cancer research has improved the diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes for those who develop the disease. Breast Cancer Research aims to fund these research programmes to continue to impact the outcomes for those who develop the disease in the future.
The research team, in collaboration with universities and hospitals across the globe, focuses on the development and improvement of diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies, to drive real and measurable improvement in clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients.
