AC is a little black cat that I found left in an apartment I moved to at the end of 2010. I didn't know if I liked cats that much, but I took a chance on keeping her, and since she's become my most important companion and I love her and now all cats deeply.

Sadly AC recently went off her food, and after trying to get her to eat with a few different varieties for a couple of days, this week she entered a phase of absolutely no eating and nausea-related barfing. I took her to the vet and discovered that she has fatty liver: a serious disease that can result from even just a few days of not eating.

So far I have spent  over $600 on bloodwork, anti-nausea, pain medications and appetite-stimluants attempting to treat it as conservatively as possible, and although she rallied a little managing to eat a small amount, she's touch-and-go and it's become apparent that she will require full hospitalization and feeding with a feeding-tube for weeks. This will conservatively cost $3000 CAD if she can make it through the weekend; up to $4500 if she needs emergency care.

Out of pride I've tried not to do this, but today, trying gently to get her to eat--and after a few distressing times of having to give her pills--I've accepted that I can't just let her wither away because the cost is not something I can cover.

Please help save AC's life. To make sure this isn't just giving money away, I'll be giving anyone who donates $5 a Steam code for MK-ULTRA Games' Knight & Damsel (it's got trading cards, if that matters) and for $10 you'll get that and a copy of the OTHERWISE UNAVAILABLE exp. negatives, a collection of my finest video game zine writing.

Please help and thank you very much. Oh and her name? AC stands for "Accidental Cat" ;)

Happy holidays from me + AC, and thank you again to everyone who was involved in helping AC out. We might have some more news about her on-going medical situation in the new year, but just know that right now, she's happy, safe, eating when encouraged, and drinking way, way too much tree water (she loves it!)

Hi Everyone! It's been almost two weeks since my last update, and I thought everyone was due another in what I'll be calling the "two steps forwards, one step backwards" update.

After a week or so of care, AC seemed to have bounced back completely and was eating by herself, and honestly I thought we were out of the woods. Sad to say however over the weekend AC's eating again slowed to nothing, and after a bout of throwing up (which made it clear she had an empty stomach) but no interest in food, we've today again had to resort to force-feeding.

The good news is that AC's health hasn't dipped to the point where she seems particularly unwell--something we discovered today as she 1) ran away before, and then 2) struggled like mad during, her feeding.

With luck, she'll bounce back again, but this rise and then dip has made it clear she'll require care for several weeks/months yet; it's obvious now that she's going to require support with eating until we can see her eating far more by herself than we have seen.

I'd also like to take this update to give particular thanks to my flatmate and friend Pierce Derks. Many of you will know Pierce as an exacting cinematographer/mentalist who does things like edit Phantamagoria 2 into a film, but he's also AC's carer, the person who holds her during force feedings (getting covered in food paste), puts up with her shitey bum on his bedsheets, and all the other struggles we have had with her.

He's suffered for it, too (more than just repeated bedsheet cleanings) as AC yesterday managed to get under his feet causing him to break his toe when trying not to step on her! If you know Pierce, please give him some props, and by that I mean "say nice things to him" not "prop him up" because he can't stand correctly now.

But yeah: much love to Pierce; someone I can't thank or repay enough.

And finally: I'll be sending out codes and PDFs today. Sorry about the delay on that!

Hi everyone!

Well, it's been a big couple of days for AC! She was hospitalised yesterday and has since been able to return home. Thanks to her care at Bloorcourt Veterinary Clinic in Toronto (highly recommended) she is hopefully on the mend. She'll be going to and from the clinic for a while, but now our main aim is to keep her on a regular, somewhat challenging feeding schedule (until she shows real interest in eating on her own) while keeping her clean and comfortable. This has included a *lot* of butt-wiping and even a bath (she's not quite up to cleaning herself yet) but AC is STILL as sweet as a cat can be, with no bites or scratches for me or my long-suffering flatmate Pierce. She's not that happy with either of us (after a feeding or the horror of the bath she sulks for quite a while) but she's going to pull through; it might take days (or weeks) and multiple more vet visits and everything else but everyone involved is convinced she'll get there.

The fact is this wouldn't--couldn't--have happened without every one of you. As we smashed our goal, the campaign (as soon as I post this) is officially over. All money not already spent is being placed in an account specifically for AC to be used on the coming vet visits, drugs, tests and in case of any further emergency (as she is still at risk).

Oh, and I totally forgot to mention! Codes and PDF/ebook links will be sent out early next week when things have calmed down a bit (right now a lot of my time is still taken up with cat-care.)

Love from me + AC,

x

Hi everyone. I'm utterly overwhelmed. Due to many, near-ridiculously over-generous friends, AC's medical care is--with luck--taken care of. I hope that everyone is comfortable with the amount that they have donated; if you have over-donated out of sheer empathy, please contact me or gofundme (I'm not quite sure how it works) to modify your donation. Some of you have simply done too much, as grateful as I am (at this point I *need* to assume he biggest ticket donations were philanthropic millionaires, it's too big to imagine otherwise.)

AC is scheduled to be hospitalized on Monday, and seems to be responding well to being fed food slurry with a syringe, which is what we've had to resort to. She hates it, but she's showing her personality, and that's a good sign.

I will be leaving the campaign open (with no funds withdrawn) until she's been admitted. More $5, $10 donations are, and sharing on social media is, appreciated because we don't know if there will be complications. You have my guarantee that ANY money donated is being spent on AC (by AC?) alone.

"Asking for help is strength" one of my best friends told me tonight. It's true. It was so hard for me to ask for this. Somehow it always feels easier to struggle alone. But I'm not alone; AC isn't alone. I'm so proud of every one of you. I love you; thank you. x
