Timor Awakening: Commando's Return 2017
Timor Awakening is a programme of renewal and rehabilitation for Australian and Timorese veterans; with holistic health education, personal and group engagement, pastoral care, mentoring, historical commemoration and more, centred around an 11-day immersion experience in Timor-Leste.
Commandos Return has been developed for members and families of the Australian Commando Community connecting with the places and communities where Australian Commandos operated in Timor-Leste.
The phrase "your friends do not forget you" used in propaganda leaflets later in the war, were more than just words for the Commandos who served there. An identity, a unique human bond and a debt of honour were forged in the hills of Timor.
Today Australian and Timorese veterans walk together with the joint mission of supporting those affected by conflict, ensuring the past is never forgotten and doing all to preserve peace for future generations.
What each participant gets:
Return flights from Darwin to Dili
Accommodation for 10 nights in Timor-Leste
All transport within Timor-Leste
Individual Tour Kits (Tour Shirt, Tour Hat, Info kits)
Expert Australian Guides and Tour Leaders (ADF Veterans)
Professional pastoral care
Expert Timorese guides (Timor-Leste Veterans)
All meals and water in Timor-Leste
All cultural and historical activities (daily as per the itinerary)
Comprehensive travel and medical insurance
A tailored holistic health plan for the following twelve months (developed by participant with guidance) Pastoral care and follow up throughout the 9-month period
The Australian Commando Association Queensland committee is seeking donations to sponsor and fund two former Commando veterans to attend the Timor Awakening 2017 trip. Any additional funds raised over the target of $4000 will be donated to the Commando Welfare Trust.
This is a fantastic way to support an ex Commando, many of whom gave more than most when their country needed hard men to do a hard job. All funds raised will to directly to covering as much of the funding costs as possible to fund two ex Commandos on the 2017 Timor-Leste trip.
