A Cappella Academy 2019 (Christian DeMichiel)

You guys – I GOT ACCEPTED to attend A Cappella Academy 2019  in Los Angeles!

My name is Christian DeMichiel. I am an 18-year-old bass vocalist that is beyond excited for the honor to attend this prestigious music camp. I consider the world my home, as I have been traveling most of my life with my twin brother and parents. We have traveled the country, mainly in an RV, learning as we go. It’s a unique lifestyle, referred to as Worldschooling.

Many years ago, I was introduced to the group Pentatonix , the worldwide a cappella sensation. I fell in love with their sound and began to learn as much as I could about their style of music. I have tremendous respect for the hard work the members of the group give every day. Avi Kaplan , the former bass of Pentatonix, is my inspiration. He created A Cappella Academy to share his love of music with aspiring vocalists such as myself.

A Cappella Academy is an extensive and educational 10-day camp held at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles, California. In its sixth year, they have received thousands of audition tapes from all over the world. With only 50-70 spots available each year and a 13% acceptance rate, it is very competitive!

I have auditioned three times (2016, 2017, and 2018). I never got a spot but the staff provided positive feedback and encouraged me to keep trying. I continued working on my skills, determined to obtain one of the coveted bass positions. The 2019 season was my fourth and final audition. To apply, you must be no older than 18 or in your last year of high school. This was my last chance to make it, so I gave it my all.

The results came in and I was put on a waitlist for a few nerve-wracking weeks. Hundreds of my friends on Twitter, and other social media, offered their support and kept me feeling positive while I waited. When I received word that I was being offered a spot at A Cappella Academy for 2019, I literally jumped for joy. Thank you so much to all my online friends that encouraged me to never give up! MY DREAM IS COMING TRUE!

I’ve always had a passion for singing and music will forever have a special place in my heart. No matter if I’m singing a Kesha song at senior citizen karaoke or lip syncing/dancing to Superfruit before a Pentatonix concert, I have definitely shared my passion for performance.

It can be challenging to find a group to sing with since I travel fulltime, but nothing makes me happier then singing with others. I can’t wait to perform with all the talented musicians that will be at A Cappella Academy. I’ve been fortunate to perform twice with a group choir at PentaCon  (a convention for fans of Pentatonix). It was led by Mario Jose and each time was breathtaking.

Here’s an example of the choir:  https://youtu.be/UFgeDsy-Cjw

The cost to attend A Cappella Academy is $1,995. This covers lodging, meals, and all educational costs. This does not include travel expenses to get to Los Angeles. I worked really hard this summer at Yellowstone and was able to earn enough money to cover part of the cost involved. I just need a little more help!

It would mean the world to me if you could DONATE or SHARE THIS PAGE because it really is an incredible experience. Please help me make my dream Summer at ACA 2019 come true!

I appreciate all of you so much. Thanks for reading!
