Help Orphans and Abused Wildlife

We are supporting two wonderful charities in Peru  - and orphanage for extremely poor or abused little girls.... and a wildlife sanctuary that cares for abused and injured wildlife.

Imagine -
A 6-year old girl dragged from her home by an abusive uncle after her parents tragically died.  Or two little 6-year old girls found hiding in a box because they had no where else to go.

majestic pumas cruelly drugged and chained in a nightclub in Lima. Or a beautiful young monkey abused at the hands of a brutal owner. Or a gorgeous hawk who was cruelly shot .... for fun.

We want to help.  We will be traveling to Peru and volunteering with these important organizations and would like to help them by providing some items that they desperately need.

The Orphanage:
The orphanage is Hogar de Ninos San Judas in Cusco – a facility created to help the poorest of the poor – and sadly – victims of abuse.   It is a government funded facility – which means that there are very few resources available to them other then meeting basic needs.

It is home to about 40  sweet Peruvian girls between the ages of 6 and 17.   San Judas is a place for girls whose families are unable to properly take care of them, many of the girls were rescued from violent homes, where relatives abused them or abandoned them to seek a better future elsewhere.  San Judas is all they have to call their own.

(An account of the orphanage from a volunteer:   There was one lone shelf of broken toys and games the girls have to play with when not given tasks such as carrying stacks of wood to an overflowing pile of trash, sweeping the floors, washing the windows with old pieces of newspaper, hand-washing and hanging the few articles of clothing they have and scrubbing away the residue left by the chickens that roam their backyard. When the girls aren’t busy with the variety of adult tasks they are constantly given, their choices for a sense of a childhood remain painfully low.)

We want to bring these girls some much needed clothing and some games and toys that they can play with to bring some light and fun to them.

The Wildlife Sanctuary: The Ccochahuasi Animal Sanctuary is a privately-owned, family-run organization in the Sacred Valley of Peru that rescues wildlife and exotic animals that have been injured or have been used for cruel entertainment purposes, who have suffered mistreatment from former owners / evil poachers or illegal hunters whom commercialize protected species.

These rescued animals are put under the care of C.A.S by The forest Rangers, a dependency of The National Police or by the National Government.

We have been visiting and volunteering with CAS for five years and have seen first hand the tireless dedication of this family who runs this sanctuary. Dante is a biologist and knows how to appropriately care for the beautiful animals that live there.... and how to work with the endangered species program for the condors (Peru's most sacred bird).

We have seen them grow,  have experienced their authentic dedication and we have done several volunteer projects over the years.

We are bringing an amazing group of individuals to Peru for a group journey and will be doing a volunteer project at CAS.  As a group - and representing our generous and loving communities back home -  we would love to gift them with funds to help them care for the deserving animals that are there and the ones to come in the future.

They never turn away any animal in need.

We want to help them expand their facilities to give their birds of prey a rehabilitation cage so they can fly, and the opportunity to update and upgrade their facilities and to directly care for the animals that are in their loving care.

Date for donations:  June 20, 2018

Since CAS was established in 2007 they have been sheltering wild species, many of which are endangered. One of the species at risk of extinction is The Andean Condor, it deserves special consideration, because its population has been seriously decimated, and efforts to encourage its reproduction in captivity and later releasing the young Condors. It's our focus to illustrate our visitors on the factors that are causing this species to nearly disappear as a consequence of the action of man. The feathers are of great value for some craftsmen who later sell them as souvenirs for tourists, this activity stimulates the illegal hunting for this magnificent bird.
