Abseiling for Int'l Women's Day

Donation protected
Challenge accepted. I'm abseiling on 8th March 2017 to mark International Women's Day (IWD) and raise funds for Derby's uplifting community festival to celebrate this global day in my hometown.

The Challenge: At each New Year my closest friend Nilam and I write down our goals together and give each other a challenge to complete to stretch us beyond our 'comfort zones'. This year I was given the challenge to go abseiling; I'm nervous but excited too - I've never done any climbing or abseiling before. The chosen spot is in the Peak District and is about 50-60 ft high.

The Cause: Derby's IWD Festival has a heritage going back more than 100 years and is organised entirely by a small team of volunteers - I am Chair of the group. We all work really hard in our spare time throughout the year to raise funds and organise the annual event for all the local community to enjoy.  We aim to remember and thank the women who went before us and fought for the rights we enjoy today, to celebrate inspiring trailblazers, to renew efforts for women's charities and gender equality worldwide and to inspire girls, broadening their horizons beyond what the media sterotypes tell them they can be.

I'd really appreciate your sponsorship for taking on this challenge and helping us to keep our annual IWD Derby festival going.

This year's festival is on Saturday 11th March 2017 , 10am-4pm on Derby Market Place and QUAD, Cathedral Quarter, Derby. FREE entry and live performances all day, 40+ stalls & table-top activities, arts & crafts, causes, inspiring workshops, free creche, sports tasters and more.
