Help Abel Recover from Brain Injury

Donation protected
The struggle continues - it's as though we are forgotten by the insurance companies. Three years with no medical or time loss payments from the dump truck drivers' insurance company; and, continual battles with our own insurance to authorize treatments.

Abel and I need your continued prayers for healing and financial help to endure this hardship. He may recover more if he has two additional surgeries and more vision/brain therapy.  Living with a traumatic brain injury is challenging. I have to keep my eye on him, so that his choices don't further harm him. He still awaits neck and back surgeries for the injuries he received when a dump truck hit him while he was stopped at an intersection. There was a time that I thought the insurance would simply do the right thing, and treat him fairly. I now find that hope very elusive, even though the dump truck driver accepted responsibility.

I am thankful that he was able to have his shoulder surgically repaired. Additional therapy will be beneficial for his eyes, memory and cognitive skills that were impacted by the brain injury.  Even with many daily medications - pain,  misery and anxiety fill his days.

We continue to be responsible for the medical costs and other financial impact until insurance sorts out, God willing, later this year.  Some of the specialty care is not covered by our medical insurance and there are substantial out of pocket and deductible costs.

The loss of his income and ability to work to help provide for his family has led to treatment for post concussion syndrome and clinical depression. He was a carpenter in the Portland area for over 25 years and an integral part of the family farm.

I am Therese,  Abel's wife; and I reach out to you for help. I am grateful to be able to work while still taking him to so many appointments; but, after enduring this hardship for many months, my resourcefulness and savings have withered.  We need your help as we continue this journey. I must pay for his insurance premium each month, even though they sometimes reject his doctors' recommendations for treatment.

Please consider making a donation to help us continue his road to recovery. I am hopeful that he will continue to improve with the brain injury/speech/vision/shoulder therapies and other treatments and surgeries. And, to see that great smile again!

Thank you for any help you can give, including prayers for healing and prayers for the additional surgeries he needs (an insurance nightmare).  Please feel free to share this with your friends. We will 'pay it forward' when we are able. Gratefully, The Sprauer/Zavala Family.
