UPDATE 1/1/2017

Congratulations and a HUGE Thank You!!! Together, we have reached the initial goal and the four students have gone in to get registered for school!  They start classes next week, talk about an immediate impact!

Since we have such great momentum, I have extended the goal to include the final year of high school for the students, including national exam fees. We hare already created a massive impact and can completely alleviate the financial pressures for the remainder of the students high school education!

All of the students wanted to take the time to give a quick thank you and wish all the donors, sharers, and people who have clicked on the page at all a very Happy New Year!

Sandra Longwe says, ''I am happy for the donations. They give me hope of not dropping out from school again. I will work hard in class and make those who donated and my relatives proud."

George Ngulube says, "For the first time in my life I have come to believe that there are people with good hearts out there. I have walked around my village, town, and many other places asking for help but never got that chance to go back to school. To those who have donated and those who are yet to, I promise you that your help is not a waste. I more importantly wish you all a long life full of success. 'Zikomo Kwambiri -Thank you very much'"

Victoria Ngulube says, "I greatly appreciate your support. I see myself as a role model after completing my education because of your help. I will be able to support my young child and my community. Once again, thank you very much. You are the most amazing people I have ever known. Wish you Merry Xmas and Prosperous New Year!"

Linda Mwenda says, ''The world would be a better place if more people of your nature existed. I fail to find the right words to express my gratitude for your help. I hope because of you, I will no longer see my country as a painful place. I wish you good luck as you kick start the year 2017".

ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN DESCRIPTION:

Hey there!

Our names are Jordan Zipkin and Alick Banda and we are trying to raise money to help four amazing individuals go back to school to continue their education!

Jordan and Alick met completely by chance - It was a sunny day in Malawi when Jordan, a confused Canadian traveler, happily sat next to Alick, a Malawi native, on a shared taxi from Mzuzu to Nkhata Bay.  Alick very quickly welcomed Jordan to Malawi and they had a great conversation throughout the trip. It turns out, Jordan was sitting next to a very special person - Alick is extremely involved in his community and was kind enough to offer Jordan the opportunity to help.

Alick spends a lot of his time at the Rejoin Art Community Project where he leads a program which teaches youth about art.  Alick and the members spend their time productively by drawing, painting, sculpting, and making jewelry. All of the final products are sold to raise more money for the community itself!

There are currently 4 members of the art project who have had to drop out of school for various reasons, and would love to continue their education. The entire Rejoin Art Communnity Project is supporting the students and have worked together to put their pieces of art up as rewards for the gofundme campaign!

How You Can Help

The money we are raising is dedicated to helping these students accomplish their dream.  The funds will be going to paying the students fees for the first year of the program, as well as paying for school requirements such as uniforms, textbooks, and computer and library access fees.

In addition to the funds, our goal is to provide the students with the support they need to get through their schooling. We will be arranging a day to take them to school for registration, and another day to visit the school with the students and host a meeting the head teacher. We will also continue to monitor the students' progress in class by consulting the head teacher.

We will be pairing donors with the students they are helping - each student is extremely thankful that you are taking the time to read the page, share the page, or donate any amount. These prospective students would love to share their appreciation with you, and get to know who you are and what your life is like!

Who You Are Helping

The prospective students are extremely talented individuals who have gone through a lot in their lives. We have included a brief profile of each student and will share more as the gofundme campaign continues!

Victoria Nguluwe

Unfortunately, Victoria's parents died when she was 7 and her younger brother George was just 3 years old.  She attended school as long as possible, but after getting pregnant at 16, she could not afford to take care of her brother and child and attend school at the same time. Today she is 20 and still desires to continue her education, she dreams of one day becoming a nurse.

George Ngulube

George is Victoria's younger brother. He always scored the highest grades at Mpamba primary school. His teacher always said that he would make a great figure in future.  Unfortunately, along with his sister he had to drop out of school because school fees were too expensive.  He wonly love the opportunity to go back to school and continue his education.

Sandra Longwe

Sandra is 16 years old and got selected to attend secondary school. She was able to afford the school because her parents managed to find a bursary scheme for her.  Unfortunately, after one year the bursary scheme stopped supporting the students. This forced her to dropout from school as her parents could not afford paying for her education.

Linda Mwenda

While Linda loves to learn, she was forced to drop out  of school because her parents attempted to marry her off. Their attempt stemmed from their desire to raise money to buy a water pump for irrigation at their small dambo land. The village chief did not like the marriage and criticised Linda's parents who angrily vowed not to pay for her school fees anymore.  As a result, she has been out of school for more than a year but dreams of going back to school.

Your Impact

For a small donation, you can change someone's life.  These prospective students are incredibly strong individuals who are looking to better themselves and open themselves up to new opportunities.  All they need is a little help from you!  If you could do without a movie, a few cups of coffee, or a few drinks at dinner, you can really create a massive impact in these people's lives!  Donations of any amount will make an impact, and simply sharing this page to increase our reach would be a massive help as well!
