Aaryn's eye loss & medical expenses

$7,060 of $7,000 goal

Raised by 91 people in 7 months
On Feb 8, 2018, my son, Aaryn Williams was securing a mattress onto his vehicle with bungee cords when one of them came loose and struck him in his left eye, causing a devastating eye injury and requiring emergency surgery. The surgery was unsuccessful in saving his eye and on Feb. 21, 2018 Aaryn will undergo a second surgery to remove the eye and reconstruct the remaining area to accommodate a prosthesis, which he will be fitted for, and have made, in a few months.

He is unable to work and it will be a couple months before he can go back to work. At this time it is uncertain if he will return to construction or seek other employment.  As far as we can tell from researching the internet, he is not eligible for short term disability because he isn't a teacher and he has not paid into state retirement.  He will have medical and other expenses for some time to come as a result of his injury and any donations will be used for those expenses.

We are grateful for the positive thoughts and prayers coming our way. We feel them a thousand times a day, in a thousand different ways. Aaryn has a long physical and emotional journey ahead of him, so please keep those thoughts and prayers coming.  Thank you,

We are up early to get in with the doc this morning. Aaryn's pain has subsided, butbhe has a great deal of swelling of the eye. I am very proud of his continued positive outlook about what he has experienced. We are ever grateful.

We had a rough night with Aaryn. He was in a great deal of pain. Hopefully, today will not be as bad.

Thank you for everything.

Aaryn's surgery went as the doctor hoped it would. His sclera is intact, as are the muscles attached to it. This was the best and hoped for outcome. It will allow Aaryn to have full movement of the prosthetic eye.

I am grateful to God and to all of you.

They have just called Aaryn back for his surgical prep. As I sit here I am overwhelmed with a profound sense of sadness and find that it is a struggle to keep the tears at bay. In my mind I see his tiny, beautiful, newborn face, with his wrinkly forehead, his little widows peak and his beautiful, rich, dark brown eyes. I can picture those eyes in all their expressiveness throughout his 24 years, whether the expression was mischief, joy, focus on learning, creativity, wonder, fear, pain, defiance, anger, sadness, compassion, or love. I see it all in my mind as I sit here. And I grieve for his loss.

But I am also grateful in ways that I can't express...that he is here, that he didn't suffer a traumatic brain injury, that he has good vision in his right eye and that he has a bright future ahead of him. A future that will still be limitless.

I held his hand before they called him and I gave his care to God, because I know that God knows what I do not. I know that God will carry him through all things for his good. And I trust in God above all.

I know that in a few months I will again look into a pair of beautiful brown eyes, one that I looked into all his life and one that will be beautifully created just for him.

There are blessings even in pain.

Thank you, all for all you have done.
I will post again later today.
